Like I have said before I am new to the board and everything but I was wondering how this recruiting process is compared to years past.

Like last years class wasn't very good. Were we in the running for some good ones and just let them slip away? or did we not have many good ones to start with?

And the 05' I think thats the year we had the #1 class in the nation. Kinda the same question on that. Did we get some late commits or was it set for a while?

Just curious on the comparisons and how this year relates them.

Appreciate it ahead of time!:good!:

You can read the scout commit list to see when each player committed.

Scout.com: Football Recruiting

I think the loss of Coach Cut was the biggest reason why we didn't recruit well last year.

I think 2005 was the perfect storm. We got early commits from two 5* prospects Crompton and Coker, who were probably the best recruiters for us that year. We also had a really good in-state class.

In '07 we were #3 in the nation. With this class I'd say we're around 15, give or take a couple spots. If Oku was considered a 5-star prospect (which he should considering he's the number 1 APB in the country), then we might be considered as having a 10th or 11th ranked class.

But the next few weekends will prove the true greatness of our recruiters. If we can get even 1 of these 5-star kids to sign, we'll be top 10 fo sho, fo sho.

As far as the last day of the month, if a majority of these young men are swayed to want to play with each other in orange, you could see that ranking zip to number 1 in a flash.

The ball is in Kiff's court. We'll see what happens on the 4th of Feb.

Let's just say that the passion hasn't been in the recruiting system for sometime. 2002 was really the last time we had a class that panned out for the best. Energy was needed and has been put into place. We will have Top classes in the year's to come and coaches in place to help player development.

This has been a very different year for recruiting from my standpoint. I can't remember a year where we were hearing this many different names, new ones popping up every day, this close to signing day. Our last few weekends in January have always been big weekends, but I can never remember them being this loaded with this many uber-talented players deciding to give UT a chance.

I know I am biased, but I really feel that a lot of folks - recruits and coaches alike - see the writing on the wall for something very special here. Look at the GA's and the admins that we are bringing in. Look at the recruits that are giving this staff a shot when they wouldn't give the former one the time of day. We should have a decent close this year, but I expect next year to start immediately after signing day. We are going to start hearing big names with interest in UT early and often with a couple of big name commitments before Summer. It's as exciting a time as I can remember.

Weekend recruiting trips are a lot like the free trips offered by timeshare companies:

1. Some people are genuinely interested and want to hear the pitch, so they can make an educated decision on whether to sign up or not.

2. Some people have zero interest and know in advance that they will not sign the papers no matter how good the deal sounds. It's cut and dried. All they're looking for is the free weekend getaway.

What makes it especially interesting is the third group...

3. These are the people who tell their family and friends that they are just going for a free weekend getway, but end up liking what they hear a little too much to pass up. These are the kids that keep us on Volnation clicking refresh the day after every recruiting weekend. They're the ones who'll make your whole day or break your whole heart.

We have the coaches and the facilities to turn a lot of prospects into the third type of people. For every 4 or 5 star that is just trying to get a free trip, there is a potential buyer mixed in, whether they know it or not. You have to love our odds in the coming years if our staff has generated this much interest in just a matter of weeks.
