The constant questioning his intelligence is ridiculous. He's a football player and that's all

I have no idea what that statement means. So football players don't have varying degrees of intelligence? Intelligence is irrelevant to the QB position? I realize that your quarterback doesn't have to be pondering a career in law to be a good QB (though it worked out well for Steve Young), but a requisite amount of it might help them learn the playbook. So I don't think such a question is out of line.

Intelligence is definitely overrated at the QB spot. Terry Bradshaw is a blithering idiot and in the HOF. Ryan Leaf and Heath Shuler are two more standout college QBs that I wouldn't trust to tie my shoes.

Someone need to be cool under pressure, understand what defenses are trying to do to him and react well. Intelligence helps in this area, but is not a requisite.

Finally, what in the hell does pondering a legal career have to do with intelligence?

I phrased it that way because Young didn't go to law school till after he was done with football. I'm certain you wouldn't refute that your average lawyer is substantially smarter than your average football player. So, why in the hell did that need an explanation?

inverse relationship.

as far as smarts behind center, dan marino and vince young reportedly registered the two lowest scores ever on the intelligence test administered at the combine, and they aren't too shabby. especially marino.

I hope he can turn it around. However, when was the last punter NOT named Danny White or George Blanda that had to read a defense?
