Just like the mix of my jack and coke is really more complicated than 2 ingredients.

The Appy state game not going how most of us thought it would is due to a number of factors.

*The order of these may very to some(and I'm sure theres more to it than this. These are just the main factors to me), but here they are in order to me*

1. The staff not wanting to show anything. Our offense was super vanilla last night. no sweeps, very little read option, no alot of pass action, etc. The point is we didn't really run our offense at all.

2. 99 times out of 100 a team in appy states shoes shows ups beaten before they start. Appy state played like they thought they could win and them scoring first did nothing, but help that idea.

3. We bought to much into the hype. This team is now the hunted rather than the hunter. Nothing else to say here.

This was probly the best thing that could have happened. We may drop some in the top 15 before we play VT, but we'll be back in the top 10 by Florida.

GBO!!!

Yes, that too close for comfort win probably is good for the team to stay focused & grounded. It also shows what a couple of bad turn of events/mistakes can turn the momentum into the opponents favor. I agree this team is better than what they showed last night but we were extremely lucky to come out with a W. This team should have never been in this position; mistakes/turnovers happen, just a part of football. Proud of our defense especially coming back in the second half. I'm telling you right now we better get control of a viable passing attack or it's going to be game over. Too many of Dobbs' passes are thrown up for grabs. That will be a killer against teams like Florida, UGA, or Bama; can't make mistakes like that against those type teams.

That kind of game happens at least once a year to someone in the top 10. I am just thankful that maybe our guys learned some lessons without actually losing the game

So after watching a few games I just can't help but think Deboring was calling a scared/safe game after his last effort against App State. Teams so far have looked as they did last year except for UT, so I'm hoping VANILLA was/is the problem! I think we tried to play keep away and it didn't work as well as we wanted!

Opposing teams have 3 years worth of BJ Tennessee coached game film to study. I don't exactly see how purposely being vanilla against Appy State helps anything, nor do I believe that is what we did. We just didn't execute offensively like we should, due to lack of will/focus.

Someone please explain this to me. I get you don't show every new wrinkle they may have been working on, but we are pretty much the same team as last year. People have plenty of tape to see what we do. It's not like we are breaking in a new QB and OC. I agree the playbook was limited, but why is the question.

I will accept they wanted to protect Dobbs to limit the chances of getting injured, but when you are down most of the game, at some point you would think they would run Dobbs, break out the read option, etc. We are lucky to walk out with a W and I don't get why coaches didn't open up the offense in the 2nd half.

I would rather they open up aggressive in the first half and try and rest starters as early as possible as opposed to 3 yards and a pile of dust most of the game

My observations:

1) I think game plans was to work on Dobbs as a QB and work on somethings. Not a plan where they thought they needed to play the zone read like normal. Dobbs held the ball way too long and made poor decisions.

2) Fumbles killed us. I think we had 4 or 5 and lost 1. We got lucky, but those were momentum killers.

3) App State had a better game plan. They used their "cramps" and clock mgmt. better than anyone. They got the ball out in less than 3 seconds every snap, never held the ball.

4) The interior of our OL had a terrible game. App state rushed 3 people at times and still our protection broke down.

5) Our D got better as the game went on. After the first half, the D was much better. By the time we get to the Ohio game they will be much better. This also will be App State's O's worst game of the year. They had a really good RB and OL.

6) I hope this was just us playing vanilla and overlooking a good team. The play calling was really bad on our side. They need to turn Dobbs loose like in the Georgia game and let it go.

Agree with what you say. But, setting game plan ect. aside, getting physically beaten almost to the man by a smaller group, should cause some response to one's manhood. Speaking mostly of the off.
