Okay so yesterday I was playing golf. Just to let you know I live in Southern Cal now. I went out by myself and got grouped with a twosome, a father and son who are from Southern California. As we hit the first green, I marked my ball with my Tennessee ball marker and noticed he(the father) marked his ball with a UCLA marker. I didn't say anything but when he noticed the T on the ground he asked me if that was Tennessee or Texas. After I said Tennessee, well that's when the fun started.

They were both really cool and the whole round was a blast. We got to talking and traded a few jabs back and forth. The reason that I am telling this story is what they thought about Kiffin and how they viewed Tennessee football.

First off, they had a ton of respect for Tennessee. They both said that when it comes to college football, Tennessee always came to mind. Then the dad mentioned Lane Kiffin. I thought "Here we go, he's gonna bring up secondary violations or Oakland or something negative". However to my surprise, here's what was said:

"Lane Kiffin is trying to motivate the program. Even though I might think some of his tactics are risky, all that matters is that Tennessee get's back to where they need to be and for that you guys just have to win games." He went on to say that Lane is a young man with "lots of fire". He chuckled and then said "reminds me when I was young. I did things my way no matter who I pissed off but I got the job done. Lane will do a good job." That kinda made me feel good.

We had a good ole time and just thought I would pass this along. Oh and if you're wondering how I shot...not so good.

GO VOLS!!!

Depends. I usually play at Woodley Lakes or at Encino/Balboa because the are like 5 minutes from my place. I also go out to Rustic Canyon or Robinson Ranch. I have never been south to OC to play but I would like to try out Strawberry Farms or Monarch Beach. They're pricey though.

How about you?

Good story. It's good to see that the other fans had respect of Lane while he was out in USC.

Yea they had more good things to say but I didn't really want to write a novel. The dad cracked me up when he was talking about being younger. He had some funny stories.

I have played strawberry several times and monarch once several years ago. Both good courses. Rustic canyon is great, but the wind was horrible when we played. Oc gold the issue is the courtlses are way overpriced.

Hey guys, kind of a random interjection, but I'm moving out to Irvine for grad school in about 3 months. Y'all got any advice for someone moving out there for the first time? Particularly a decent place to watch the UT games?

UCI? If you want bars with cute girls to watch the games, the best place is the balboa peninsula. Something like Rudy's, or Newport Brew Co. Rudy's is more of a true sports bar than Brew Co. I think there is a group of UT fans that meets at the ESPN Zone in anaheim, but you don't want to have to worry about drinking and driving. Irvine is very close to the beach, especially if you are living near UCI, so that is what I would suggest.

Thanks for the input. Yeah I'll be at UCI, home of the mighty Anteaters...:ermm:

Ah well, at least they have some decent baseball to watch...

Did a little research and it's the UT Alumni Assoc that meets at the ESPN zone. Might have to go there for the smaller games, but those other places sound pretty dang good for the national broadcasts.

Yeah the issue with ESPN Zone is its right by Disneyland so a lot of traffic and parking can be a pain. I work right near UCI, it's a good spot. Irvine is essentially one big suburb so you want to get to newport or laguna if you want to have some fun. Steelhead Brewery is basically on the campus and good to go for Tacos on Monday night, and Pizza's on either Tuesday or Wednesday. And there is an IN-N-Out right there as well. Orange County gets a little pricey, but most places have good happy hours.
