One of the posters on VQ, Levity, put together a really great post over there on the experience factor for UT. This is VERY eye opening, and should give kind of a new look into a fairly debated issue.....
This is truly a great post, and anyone who even questions where we are at this point, really needs to back off. We are in a tough spot, and this highlights it even more. Truly good research.
talent has more to do with it than years of experience. everybody knows tn doesnt have much talented seniors playing but im getting tired of hearing all these excuses as to why tn gets drilled every weekend. its easy to say "just wait till next year" .
Age and experience are great, no doubt.........but the talent potential of each kid is even more important.......
You can have a team full of experienced players without talent, and still not be very good.......
I think what has me worried is that Dooley has finished middle of the pack in the sec in recruiting and this year looks to be the same. If its all about having the best players, we still aren't getting it done.

Do you want to see are program regress even further than it already has? If you do, speak up. But if you do, just know that there will be no measuring the depths of your stupidity and ignorance.
Really? Do you really believe the recruiting svcs can accurately differentiate between a team that averages 3.4 stars and one that avg's 3.6? UT was #6 last year with 3.41 stars. Teams 2-5 all had star avg's around 3.6. IIRC, a Rivals employee admitted to pumping up Bama's class that had 3.91.
But just to clarify the difference... does Young look like a 3*? How about Randolph that Rivals showed particular bias against for some unknown reason.
From the previous year, how do the 3* nobodies named Fulton, Rivera, Fugate, and Palardy look?
The second big piece is retaining the talented players you get. In '10, ten of the 13 4/5* players made it to campus. Nine remain on the roster. In '11, twelve 4/5* players signed with UT. All made it to campus and only one has left due to personal issues. In 09, eleven 4/5* players signed... four remain on the roster. In 08, Fulmer signed only four highly rated players. Two were gone before their 3rd season.
In 07, Fulmer signed a pretty incredible five 5* players and eleven 4* players. Ten of the 16 include 3 of the 5* players were gone before their elibility was up.
That last point brings up something else you need to understand when you look at recruiting svc rankings. POLITICS are involved. The evaluators DO look at who is recruiting a kid when determining his rating. Fulmer at the time was considered a premier recruiter. Chris Donald was nowhere near the #1 LB that year. But Fulmer along with ND and Bama pursued him hard.
UT IS getting enough talent to compete for championships if Dooley and staff can coach them up.
Bump for all of the ignorant fans calling for the head coach to be fired. The numbers here do not lie; the "eye" tests of spoiled fans with inferior knowledge of college athletics do.
