Shamlessly lifted from Brent Hubbs but I don't care. I was concerned about letting Baggett go however if what Hubbs says is true, then props to Dooley for recognizing that we couldn't have subpar recruiting efforts.

From VQ, there was a post about Baggett not liking the recruiting aspect of college and this was Hubbs response.

Hubbs:
I don't know about hating it. I don't think he minded recruiting kids. I don't think he liked going out in the spring and evaluating a bunch of schools looking for players (I think that's why Tennessee was late on some guys in his territories). And I don't think he liked the day to day 365 days a year cycle that recruiting has become.

Recruiting now is very different than it was when he was at Michigan State and I don't think he he liked the current way much at all.(End)

Like I said, I don't usually lift stuff verbatim from other boards, but this actually makes me feel a bit better and also that Dooley recognizes we need relentess recruiters to succeed.

Still doesn't mean he was let go at all. If he didn't like the recruiting aspect of coaching college ball, maybe he really did decide to retire.

That's true, but if he were the reason we were late on offering and evaluating recruits in his area, then regardless of the reason, we will be better off as a team if Dooley hires a guy that will recruit better.

Somewhat of a similiar situatio with Chuck Smith last year. Didn't want to put in the work recruiting, and also getting along with coaches, so he was let go.

He was a good coach, but not an indispensable one. We will find someone else, and life will go on. Thanks for the 2 years!

Smoke and mirrors?

Just asking a simple question, who has Baggett coached in recent years that he truly brought from the ground up in coaching the player up?? His longest tenure as an assistant came with the Vikings from '00-'04. He's not had a very long tenure with a team since.

Isn't it more about whether it gets done than how it gets done. According to some on the recruiting board, he was the linchpin in our chances with Patterson and Howard. If that's so, how is he a bad recruiter?

I think Baggett is a good coach; however, let's not get ahead of ourselves. It's not like he made Randy Moss, Chris Carter, etc... the players they are. Also, of the 4 WR recruits we have, he wasn't their primary recruiter. Again, I am thankful for Baggett and the NFL experience he added, but he is replaceable.

Hinshaw is Patterson and Howard's recruiter.

He left his mark on Hunter and Rogers, and that is all I can ask from him. I will miss him, though.

The improvement I saw in Hunter and Rogers was pretty significant. Hunter was looking like a complete receiver, not just a really fast dude that could run down the field and jump over everyone. Rogers went from just a few catches to having over a thousand yards.

His involvment with the program, IMO, will continue to be felt until the receivers that were under his tutelage are gone.

Now - if we can just get them to block!

Denarius Moore doubled his production from his junior to senior year. Did you not notice any differences in Da'Rick from last year to this year?

Well, if this is the real story behind it all, then we did the right thing in mutually deciding it was time for him to retire. We need RELENTLESS and TIRELESS recruiters, period. There is no room on this staff for anybody (no matter how good of a coach they are) who won't, eat, sleep, and breathe recruiting.

That being said, I still think IF Da'Rick is a major attitude problem who is openly challenging the authority of coaches, then we are better off getting rid of him.

He is a pro coach and this makes since why he wouldn't want to grind all year (like recruiting). For those who said he couldn't control Da'Rick, let me remind you he coached Moss, Carter, Plaxico. If those aren't some of the biggest head cases around who is? he did a pretty good job "managing" all of those. Two are arguably hall of famers.

He retired. Let it go.

The man is one of the best coaches and best recruiters in the game. If he doesnt want to do that anymore, then that is his decision.

Nobody follows you folks around second and third guessing every decision you make.

He has things in life that have become more important than football. He retired.

He is a very good man, an excellent coach, and he represented your university very well. Be thankful that you had him. Wish him well. Move on.

And yes, everyone is replaceable. But I would not minimize what he did. It doesnt always matter who the lead recruiter is. It matter what they are recruiting a kid to come to.

yall will be ok. Relax and Breathe.

Charlie Baggett and Chuck Smith. 2 coaches I was hoping would be here for awhile and both gone. I should be used to it by now. I Ioved having Kiffin here and he bolted. I am feeling more and more beat down to cheer for UT. I wake up worried that next thing is Neylands name will be removed from stadium and will be replaced with something else. Tennessee needs our swagger back.
