A little bit of love from the media

Trying to still wrap my head around how a 1-1 AU team is still in the top 25. They looked like trash on Saturday, and yet they sit one spot behind the Vols!

Either you didn't read the article or you completely misunderstood the point it was trying to make.

I did read the article. It is a good point about OSU, PSU, and Oregon not playing a game yet, but the simple fact is they have all been more relevant more recently than UT. Auburn still being ranked ahead of us is the only real beef here and I think the UNC comparison is apt.

That said, we haven't proven to be a top 10 team yet. The combined win record of our opponents to date is 0. Perhaps there is a good argument for us to be ranked a little higher but that is arguing over scraps and only works when you compare us against UNC.

Like I said, we beat UGA and the ranking and respect will fall into place. We need to prove it on the field against a top 10 team.

Yep...when we beat UGA Saturday...we all shall see if there’s a real bias against us when the next poll comes out..

“I think voters look at UT’s disastrous last 10 years and they don’t believe Tennessee has staying power.”

You can’t argue with this...there is no denying that we’ve earned the negativity. The past 12 seasons have been abysmal and the program has been like a rudderless ship. Now, we are going to have to go out and earn some positivity.

I agree and I'm not one of those fans desperate for the scraps either, I just think the article did a good job pointing out the flaws in the rankings.

Rankings don't mean much right now. And if I'm a pollster looking not only at the current record but also where I think a team might end up... I see UGA, UF, and Bama down the schedule for UT. Those programs have made a habit of blowing UT out lately. Rightly or wrongly, UNC gets a favorable nod simply because they are in a conference with one great team... and they don't play them. Their hardest games are ND and Miami. Plus UNC wisely picked up WCU at the end of the season. A 10-2 finish looks very likely for them.

UT could be and probably is a MUCH better team than UNC... and still finish with 4 losses.

This and UNC being in the top 10 while we aren't is a legitimate gripe.
Both are totally legit gripes, but I see how Auburn continuing to be ranked that high could be justified based on recent track record (Auburn has been a good but not great for the last few seasons).

UNC being #8 has absolutely no possible justification, best as I can tell. They hired a well-known, national title-winning coach a couple years ago, and have recruited the last couple cycles way above their historical norm, but they've shown absolutely nothing on the field (either so far this year or last year) to justify a #8 spot. They are in no kind of position to get a "higher than what you'd think" ranking based on benefit of the doubt.
