Okay, it's slow on the board right now, so I thought this would be a good time to post this, just for fun and conversation.

With the spread becoming more and more popular, who can you think of that played before the popularity of the spread, that would have excelled in the spread?

I think:
UT -
Heath Shuler would have been a terror in the spread, with his quickness running and great arm.
Tee Martin is a name that comes to mind, but I picture him more as a scrambling QB than a spread QB. Not so sure how he would have done in the spread.

Other -
Eric Crouch from Nebraska, operated the option, but would have been really, really, good, in the spread.

Well, looking forward to what you guys have to say.

Tommy Frazier ... excellent name thrown out there!
Urban or RichRod would have been excited to have had him.

Tommy Frazier was the first name that popped into my head as well.

I don't think Crouch could handle it. He was good with the option but couldn't pass his way out of a wet paper sack.

Steve Young. He would have been a nightmare to defend in the spread. He was an elusive runner and extremely accurate with his passes.

Tebow's career passing stats:

67.1% completion
9,286 yards (many YAC's I'm sure)
88 TD
15 INT

Crouch:

51.5%
4,481 yards
29 TD
25 INT

You have to remember when he used that little shuttle pass to the back in front of him that was considered a pass and tons of screens.

Steve Young was a name I hadn't thought of. He would have been a real handful in the spread.

True about Crouch, so what about Scott Frost? Was it Scott?
