and i get the feeling that some of ya'll are maybe giving up on this team just b/c we didnt win by 30. Comeon guys this game is always like this. Ainge had a bad half, so what. We won, and our D completely dominated. Lets stay positive please.

Our coaches and players got it done.

That was a classic UT-Bama game...especially since we won. :)

I don't feel all that bad about the fact that UT could make that many drive stopping mistakes and have that many breaks/calls go against them and still beat a good football team... a team that should have had only one loss coming in. Arkansas was dominated by Bama but the Tide kicker missed 3 medium range FG's and a PAT in OT to give the game away.

Bama came in averaging 376 ypg on offense. Today they had 211 and 40 of that was a Hail Mary. They were averaging over 24 points per game and had 13 today.

They came in allowing 281 ypg. The Vols got 359. They were 16th in the nation in passing defense- 159 ypg... and gave up 302 to Ainge today even after he spotted them the first half.

The only continuing concern I have about the team as a whole is that they can't get pressure with just the front 4. I think that's the difference between them being a very good defense and being a great defense. On a better note, UT's scoring defense is now 18.4 ppg... last year's "great" defense allowed 18.6.

By no means did I expect the Vols to dominate or win by 30.... well, they didn't dominate, but that came as close as you can to dominating a three point victory as you can.

Offense moved forward and the defense didn't move backwards much. About all you can ask for.

I was very proud of this team. What about Sears on the sidelines...preaching to the team! And...Ainge's touchdown saving tackle after his pick! Heart....plain and simple. We actually had a semblance of a return game tonight. Our offense moved the ball very well outside the opponents 20..inside was another story. Man..and our defense...beasts tonight. This was the third saturday in october.

Exactly, in the first half if our D does not stand up we go to half 21-3. Hats off to our guys on D not a pretty win but any win against bama is a good win.

I think all the praise has been going to Coach Cutcliffe and our offense this year (rightly so) but Coach Chavis and our defense saved our bacon today, no doubt about it. It all evens out. The offense kept us in the game against Air Force, the defense kept us in the game today.

As usual, a close one on the Third Sat. in October. I think most of us on here knew it would be close. Throw out the records and the prognostications when we play Bama. Proud of the guys to get the win, though not the prettiest thing. A lot of heart on the team this year.

Well said CBC. Coack Kines has always had some success against Coach Cuts offense.

This team has a lot of heart and desire. Any win over bama is a great win.

Ummmmmm, seriously?

Did you see the last two plays of the game? The front 4 iced it for us with consecutive sacks. They also held Darby under 50 yards or so. The front four had a coming out party in this game.

Yeah, the front 4 did a pretty good job of flushing JPW all day long and then at the end when he was slowed down they started sacking him.

With the offense struggling most of the day and still getting a win over alabama is very satisfying to me. The defense was outstanding.

Yep, while certain aspects were ugly, namely our offensive production, any win over bama is a good win. I share the sentiments of many in saying that it was sweet to pull out the win when so much was going against us... we won against our #1/1a rival. Can't discount that... just another one in the win column.

"Heartbreaking loss for our team. We thought we had done what it takes to win the game, and we played 3½ quarters of pretty good football," Alabama coach Mike Shula said.
In addition to his 18-yard field goal, Christensen also had a 24-yarder earlier.
"That team was not better than us. No form or fashion, no way possible," Alabama defensive end Wallace Gilberry said. "If they were better than us and we had lost by 30, it still would have hurt but not so bad."
Wilhoit had field goals of 27 and 47 for the Vols.
Wilson was 13-of-29 for 158 yards, and the Tide was held to 53 yards rushing.
Tim Castille's TD was the first touchdown scored in the series since the second half of the game in 2004, which Tennessee won 17-13 in Knoxville. Castille, Simeon's brother, scored on a 2-yard run in the first quarter of that game, the Tide's previous TD against the Vols.
