Apparently Dave Hooker was interviewing Deon Walker, a recruit from Virginia, when Walker said that Daryl Vareen told him we are "loaded" at WR and don't need him. He is now considering other schools because of this. This is not a rumor and did come straight from Walker himself. This is a bit disturbing and conceited to be coming from one of our redshirt freshman.

Thoughts??

I found a link to the audio. Seems to me this is exactly what he told him but Walker just didn't come out and say it like that. You be the judge.

Well let Daryl know I guy named Poole is coming to town and thus RB position is loaded and he should transfer. Poole will be above Daryl right away IMO.

This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard---why would a player do this, except to protect his own playing time?

I understand this is not good if it's true but a. does Walker know who our starting WR's were this season, and b. does he really think he's going to walk in somewhere not face any competition and be handed the starting job.

Was his response something along the lines of why Austin Rogers was starting?

I cant believe some of you are viewing this the way you are. Apparently he values his friendship with Walker. How good of a friend would he be if he lied to him and told him our freshman WR's were no good? He didnt smack talk UT and tell him not to come. His friend asked him about the players UT has at WR and Vereen told him the truth. He said that we have some a large number of very talented WR's. Bottom line.

boneheaded move.....you get better with stiff competition at every position. I also have a feeling that the days of 5 wide are going to return.

1. Vareen should be sent packing. Pulling crap like this hurts the whole team, just as badly as if he was committing several personal foul penalties a game.

2. If Walker is afraid to compete for playing time with other talented players, then we don't want him either. If he wants zero competition, he can sign with William & Mary, Richmond, or some other Virginia school where he's guaranteed to be more talented than everyone else.
