A concerted plan to minimize some of the negative clutter on VN:

  1. We should each take personal responsibility
  2. We should each use restraint
  3. We should have a plan

I am currently training a 1 year old Great Dane to live nicely with people. Here's what works. Ignore behavior that is uncivilized and shouldn't be rewarded (with minimal, acceptable correction). Reward correct behavior that you would like to see become ingrained. Be consistent with each.

That's it.

If we keep bickering with those on here that post ultra-negative, unrealistic, asinine comments about the UT program, recruits, players and coaches, we're feeding their need for attention. We are rewarding them and training them to keep doing it to get what they want. Every time you quote one, you are giving them a snack for acting like a jerk.

My new personal rules:

  • No more than two responses to any one point that I disagree with.
  • No responses to a point that I disagree with, and that has been answered how I would have answered it. Instead I will like the post that answered it and/or quote the answer post with an"exactly", etc...
  • I will completely ignore posts that are obviously there for the shock value.
  • I will refuse to get into "name calling" matches. Insults and name calling are an implicit admissions to a faulty argument and/or ignorance, and doesn't need me to point it out.
  • If I see something that I consider over the line, I'll report it and let the moderators do their job. They are the ones with a true platform for influence around here.

Any other suggestions are welcome.

It works wonders for dogs. Let's agree to give it a try on here and try to tidy up the forum. Look at the bright side, even if it doesn't work, it'll save a lot of us some time and keystrokes.

:hi:

Thanks Dr. Phil. But in all seriousness I'm with ya I'm sick of all the negativity, agree to disagree, and if people don't wanna be miserable with you then get over it.

We should all agree that the reason UT football is at an all time low is because:

Phil got lazy
Hammy was an idiot
Kiffin screwed us
Dooley was the worst coach ever and totally ruined this year's recruiting class
Jimmy Cheek wants UT to be Vandy
Hart screwed up the Gruden hire

We should also all agree to:
Support bUTch Jones because he seems to be working hard, wants to be here, and we don't have a choice because UT can't afford to fire him
Gruden is not coming to UT for at least 3 more years
NSD 14 had better be huge!
Not b*tch when people stand up at games
Winning is the only thing that will unite the fan base
Florida and Georgia suck but not as much as Bama
Vandy is not worth discussing, EVER!

Easily Best post I've ever read on VN. Every point hit the nail right on the head. I salute you :salute:

So, you mean asking people to act in a grown-up manner, to take the high road despite provocation, to counter stuff that needs to be countered and ignore the rest, and to let facts and reason inform their responses?

j/k (mostly); God bless and good luck to you!

and GBO!!!!!

Good points but I would have packaged better than a dog analogy. Comparing VN posters behavior to dog behavior will get you bit. :hi:

Probably because he lives at Shoneys.

I actually got the nickname in HS when Shoneys and Big Boys was the same resturant. People said I looked like the "Big Boy" that was holding out the Hamburger in front of the store. It carried over to my college fraternity days and well it stuck. I would have a good breakfast every morning If I lived at Shoneys though.
