A couple of people have come to me yesterday talking about a rumor floating about in Tennessee.

Patrick Barton sent me a comment on my web site asking if there was any truth to a rumor about Coach Freese being upset at Coach Kiffin for snatching Nick Lamaison away from Mt. SAC after playing only one season?

- First off, who is Coach Freese? There isn't anyone by that name that we recognize at Mt. SAC

- Secondly, I went to talk to a couple people including Bruce Irvin and one of the coaches of Mt SAC ...

They had no recollection of any type of unhappiness but instead said, "We are ALL happy for Nick and are extremely happy that Tennessee took him."

There's your answer Mr. Barton and to the fan who asked about that as well.

If any of you know what Mr. Barton is stating, let me know ... it's a bizaare rumor to me.

I just read something about that 20-30 minutes ago.

Coach freeze was the coach mentioned. If you want to check it out it's in the thread-Kiffin not welcomed any more? may not be exact but it will give you a starting place.

Thanks for the heads up.

I figure it helps out the school as well..."Hey look guys, come to Mt Sac. and we will get you in the SEC." sounds like a win win to me.

I think the Coach they are referring to is the coach at Lambuth University and he was relaying the message that the coach at Mt. Sac was upset. At least that was the impression after reading through that thread.

Mt. SAC football is off for a couple of weeks. At this time I wouldn't be able to get truth to this ... but in a later time I'll see directly from Coach Jabs if that's true.

But from my guess, I don't think it was bad ... as a player, you'd like to stay because you know that as a returner (with a freshman year like Lamaison) you're going to see playing time and you have the chance to really sell your name to other D-1 schools.

In Nick's case, I think once he had that call from Tenn. that was that.

He wasn't going to look anywhere else. From my guess, that was his plan. He wanted to be at Tennessee the moment they called.

i recall him telling me that whoever calls first, he's leaving for sure.

I have no idea if Coach Jabs or Coach Craft wanted him to stay seeing that he's had two quality QB's awaiting their time, Tyler Vanderzee and Kolbe Arendse.

Vanderzee is now fighting time to play along side Fresno St. bounce back Matt Faulkner right now for Mt. SAC.

Had Nick stayed, it likely would've been him, Vanderzee and Arendse and Craft would'nt have called Faulkner down here.

Oh last tidbit, Joe Montana and his son Nathaniel came to Mt. SAC to try out for the QB spot a week before he officially transferred to Pasadena...

Yours truly spoke with Joe Montana ... cool guy, low key ... but doesn't really know much about JUCO football.

Thanks for the updates and info James, its much apperciated.

In regards to Joe, that factoid about him not knowing much about JUCO football doesnt surprise me. Mechanics who work on Lamborghinis for a living would be lost under the hood of a KIA too. :eek:lol:
