A calculated move by Jimmy Sexton? (merged)

I still say that these guys were not real possibilities. We need someone HUGE, a Cowher or Gruden somebody like that. The SEC is quite intimadating right now.
Only a big name coach can give us the push we need.
Most will say "your crazy, Cower or Gruden will not come here" At the very least we should take a shot. As was quoted earlier in a post "swing for the fence" What do we have to lose? This is a big time job.

Sounds to me like he's trying to scare UT and AUB off of their current paths by saying "Look, if you fire my boys, you won't ever get a decent coach in here".

That article is all crap! Any coach that craves success and wants to be "The Man" is not going to pass up Tennessee or Auburn. Seriously, Butch Davis has a taste of big time football while he was at Miami and he knows UNC isn't it and would jump at the chance to hit the big time again. I've never heard a top tier coach say I can't coach. Just a ridiculous idea by Sexton.

If a coach is too chicken sh** to come here and coach, then he was the wrong guy to begin with.

Exactly.

Edit: I find it interesting that we all pretty much consider Fulmer being gone a forgone conclusion and nothing has even been announced.

Go Vols!

Doesn't have to be announced. Everybody knows he's gone.:good!:

I don't think it is yet a forgone conclusion. I am just going under that assumption until it is proved otherwise. It helps me sleep at night.

I agree with a few of the above posts...who wants a coach around here who is afraid of the challenge??
I am starting to come around on the idea of someone like Gary Patterson or Brian Kelly. I think they'd come here and appreciate an opportunity like this, kind of like one Bruce Dean-Fredrick Pearl.

Then again, nothing could make me happier than to get someone like Gruden or Cowher...I'll just believe that when I see it.

I honestly don't see a candidate out there that I think is the answer right now, and I'm not referring to the election. I want Fulmer gone just as much as anyone does, but not at the expense of an embarrassing hire that makes us look foolish for letting him go.
