It's the nature of college basketball but what we just watched was a 24 game warmup to the REAL season. Starting this weekend the remainder of the schedule is where all the strength is. Lots of landmines left and that just leads into the Sec tournament and the big dance. Yep, here we go.

This team is constantly praised in a backhanded way and not seen as belonging with the likes of Duke. It's time to go monkey stomp the rest of the opposition and take the respect.

This is what we've all waited for.

Yes - pretty much a cupcake schedule until Saturday. Sure there was Kansas and Gonzaga in there, but the next three weeks are going to be like getting off the bus at Parris Island and having your head shaved. Some are ready for it, some go into the fetal position. Reality of it is we don't know what we will be until we face it.

This is a senior/junior laden team, we'll be fine.

Time to ramp it up from here on out. Really enjoyed the 24 games played to date. The Vols now must prove the doubters that their first 24 games weren't fools gold. We have an experienced team and let's see if that experience pays off starting with the Saturday game in Lexington.Go Vols!

I think we know exactly what we will be. BS on the cupcake schedule, easier than some but in no way cupcake city. We are destroying good teams, 16+ per game scoring differential in league play, getting whatever we want and whenever we want, we're the more experienced team than Ky and personally I think the better team. Our veteran guards are more than capable of dominating young guards that don't play physical. Our frontcourt is the BEST in the country and capable of dominating anyone. Kentucky is not better than us at a single position 1-6 and I believe it will show up. LSU just won there and to think that we won't is disrespectful to this team and how they've played so far. Kentucky can't keep up, Vols by double digits!!

Other than the top three, SEC has turned out to be a disappointment. Now that the top three are starting to play one another, it'll be interesting to see if they are evenly matched. Only measuring stick I have is. in conference, UT has no losses and 2 single digit wins, LSU has one loss and 6 single digit wins, UK has two losses and 4 single digit wins.

I don't see what you're talking about at all (the part I put in bold). Tennessee has been ranked #1 for 3 weeks and the talking heads on ESPN are in consensus that we belong there. I saw a segment on ESPN last night where Duke alum, Jay Williams, said that Duke "has a higher ceiling" than Tennessee but come on, that isn't hard to understand and is likely accurate. We aren't being disrespected anywhere as far as I can see.

I'm good with a loss or 2 on the way.

A couple of losses from here on the regular season are almost a certainty. Wouldn't be that weird to have 3 or 4 more coming. I'm hoping for the best best expecting what's likely. Only 2 more losses in SEC play, and I'm thrilled

Nevada is a highly ranked team that’s been facing subpar competition. The same with Gonzaga in their conference play although they played a significantly harder OUC schedule earlier in the season. The SEC isn’t as weak as some on here appear to believe. At worst it’s behind the ACC and Big 10 possibly? Still talk of 8 tournament teams

Sorry, but I just don't get this thinking. Hasn't this team done enough to prove since their last loss in November that they have the ability to answer any challenge offered by any team and pull out a win. The only thing they have to to prove is that they can play bad enough for someone to beat them. That's not orange colored glasses either. It's believing what my eyes have been seeing time after time this season. Can you guys lose? Have to prove it to me.

Randoms rolling in talking smack, when not a single one was seen before the season started.

Hmmmmm.

"Cruise control" gave me a good laugh though.
The "ramdoms" here now just mean we're good, real good

Hope we do to the kitties on Saturday like that Colorado runner did to that mountain lion the other week...

I guess maybe it’s the BVS, but I need to see what happens in this game...I can’t help but look at the other side and say, well we beat Gonzaga because they were without 2 of their best players and still needed Admiral to absolutely go bonkers to get that win, other than that who have we beaten?

Now as I’ve said before, to our guys credit they’ve beaten the team on the other end of the court each time, and regardless of level of competition that’s not alway easy, so that is worth something imo. No fault of Barnes because schedules are made years in advance, but this years just didn’t give too many looks at how we would fair against Top 10 quality teams, that’s also due to our back loaded SEC schedule as well not just OOC.

Simply put, I’m not sure if this team is legitimately a Top 5 team or more like a Top 10 team...call me a negavol or BVS, I just think when looking at who we’ve beaten, and how, it’s hard to be sure, I would say the exact same thing about Nevada too fwiw. I THINK both teams are really good, but unlike say Duke or Virginia it’s hard to say that with a ton of conviction.

I can respect that. But I've been watching so long and I cannot remember a team that has the ability to answer like these guys do. I think we're impossible to scheme a defense for case in point , this game with SC. i've also seen the flashes of text book defense when it was needed. I think we'll all be on the same page about these guys after Saturday. We're witnessing something very special that comes around not very often in a lifetime. GBO

I’m with you...I’ve definitely seen the flashes I just hope that they can do it if needed for a full 40 and haven’t developed bad habits. I agree that I think we will get a lot of answers about this team Saturday, and that isn’t necessarily a simple W or L, we can lose this game and I can still come out feeling confident this is a Top 5 team.

To me, it has little to do with how good this team is, because they are really good. But really good teams against a stretch of other really good and just good teams are bound to lose some games. Let's just put some percentages to how much of a favorite we are against individual teams, and then you can see how likely we are to get through them. I would say we are an underdog Saturday, but close to 45 to 50%.
Vanderbilt - Big favorites, probably 10 point spread, 90% favorites?
LSU - slight favorites on the road, 2-3 point favorites, 55 to 60% win?
Ole Miss - another decent road team, 5-6 point favorites, 70% to win
Kentucky at TBA - depending on Saturday, we'll probably be slight favorites, 2 points, so 55% to win
MS State - decent team but we should be big favorites, 10 points, 80 to 90%?
Auburn on the road - another good team, we'll be favored, 75% to win?

Even if these odds I gave were fair, which I am not a professional bettor, pick your own reasonable numbers.
Using these, we are about 50/50 to lose one of Vandy, Ole Miss, and MS State, the 3 games I have us the biggest favorites in.
We would be expected to lose one of LSU/Auburn.
About 1 in 4 times, we will lose both games to Kentucky.

I know, 4 losses in our last 7 games, and everyone will be in panic mode. I am not saying it will happen, but 3 losses is a decent guess.
I hope we go undefeated the rest of the way, but as an engineer and math guy, it probably ain't gonna happen.
