98 Vols beat 08 Florida for Championship

Some of you may be tired of the Whatifsports.com stuff, but I tried a sim between our 1998 team vs. the Florida team from last year. Check it out and let's uselessly speculate.

This, by the way is with both teams using heavy run play calling, you can try it a few different ways but it's not so pretty then.

Your '98 defense was crazy talented.

That defense matched up with the likes of Tebow and Harvin would have been fun to watch.

I just simmed 2 games between the 98 vols and the 08 vols....the 08 vols won 21-6 and 34-14 respectively.

98 team was set to heavy run and 08 set to favor run. No depth chart changes, left all the starter stuff the same.

The WIS football engine is terrible. Really, most of thier sims are crapshoots other than baseball, with normalized stats and reasonably quantifiable park effects.

That is quite possibly the dumbest site on the internet. Just for S and G's, I simulated the 98 National Championship game between UT and FSU with UT as the home team, balanced attacks from both squads, and on a neutral site. I probably tried this 25-30 times and FSU won every single game. Often the score was as lopsided as 55-6, 47-0, 54-6, etc. There is no way our defense from '98 would have allowed that many points to FSU, not at the end of the season, and no way we get shut out with that balanced attack. Erroneous! I say, erroneous.
