Does this mean that CJP and his staff have 9 extra scholarships to hand out for the 2020 signing class?
NO 25 is 25

Actually the answer is "yes", but it's because of the 85 scholarship limit rule; not the 25 per signing class rule.

Due to the very small graduating Senior class, we have a numbers crunch on the 85 rule side, so the 9 transfers effectively open up 9 more scholarships for the 2020 class.

He was the punter last year and started this year. Had few muffs but so did his replacement who is on scholarship I think.

Why is Malik Gray in the transfer portal? Does he feel like he is being recruited over? He was a 4* when he came to TN. One would think he has enough skills to see playing time.
Dude, he been gone. He’s only still in because he hasn’t landed anywhere.

I think he has some grade issues.

We need to get more production from Rutherford, Williamson, and Davidson counties. We have a few ballers from there, aka, Mister Jennings. But, we need more.

Very high level of football played in Murfreesboro and Franklin areas.

On that topic, also, need more Vols ballers from Maryville and Alcoa.

No. Alcoa and Maryville will have a decent player every once in a while. Their success is predicated over their system and commitment to football excellence, it that they have power 5 level athletes.
There are only a couple of kids from each school that will be power 5 recruits down the road.

Weird how that works. Those two schools just dominate as a team.

With that said, I was really only thinking a couple from each school.

Who was our last Vol of note from Maryville or Alcoa?

By the math, kids will always be transferring out. 25*4=100 and there is a cap at 85. That means there is always friction of 15. If you average it then that is ~4 (15/4). Now it doesn't work by averages and if you presume 85 as the exit of any given year then you can figure it that way. (85/4) ~21 per year and if 21 graduate, then you need 4 extra to leave every year IF your goal is to always sign 25.

Anyway, perspective. 9 is basically double the expected. Not so bad.

I think the average of four is a a little low. You have to account for the guys that stay five years.

"13.9.2.3 Limitation on Number of National Letter of Intent/Offer of Financial Aid Signings -- Football. In bowl subdivision football, there shall be an annual limit of 25 on the number of prospective student-athletes who may sign a National Letter of Intent or an institutional offer of financial aid"
":Division 1 FBS teams can give out a maximum of 85 full-ride scholarships to athletes."
The combination of those two quotes from NCAA sources should show that 25 is an NCAA limit and cannot exceed the 85 maximum limit.
Cool did not realize the NCAA had caught up with the SEC. That was an SEC rule first.

Agreed. And... I’d say this is the tail end of coaching transition attrition.

Also, you usually see more transfers when a coach first takes over. That wasn’t really the case when Pruitt first arrived, so maybe some of this is a “correction” of that, so to speak.

Are you sure the SEC did not make it a rule based on proposed NCAA rule changes. I personally did not do the same research before today.

Looks like Ryan Johnson is on his way to Georgia Tech. Would have liked to see him stay, but I wish him the best.
