It’s the coaches poll so I kinda doubt the rankings came from a beat writer…especially one in a city without an FBS-level school.

Mostly it’s a “they were ranked last week and they beat this week’s opponent soundly.”

Off how poll trends generally go, they lost their first game to a top 10 team by 3 points, and they lost their second game against a ranked team (now also top 10) by 1 point at the very end of the game.

It’s sort of a voters giving them the benefit that with how well they played against two top 10 teams, maybe it’s more a reflection reflection of the fact that they had to start the season with two top 10 teams and not that they’re actually overrated and terrible.

…The next loss will drop them like a rock though.

Who do they play on the rest of their schedule that is ranked in top 25?

I'd like to use some of my chips in the till w/ the football gods to have Vols and Vandy beat Bama in back to back seasons...which, if it ever happened, was probably over a hundred years ago.

I don't really agree. SoCar looked like a really good win, but I think SoCar is just bad. They'll probably finish 5-7 at best.

Don't be surprised if next week's Utah St game is close.

There’s a fair chance (depending on if Alabama loses to UGA next week and how badly), Vanderbilt might be going into Tuscaloosa ranked higher than the Crimson Tide.

Maybe us too. Apparently the trend is if you win against a Syracuse level opponent you get to jump the Vols 6 or 7 places and we just perpetually stay around the same place. But beating Syracuse itself isn't worthy. Vol-Life
