Still not understanding why this is a surprise, we lost ALL of our DTs.........ALL of them!

not to mention JRM........The Captain of the Defense.......enough said. I don't believe for a second any head coach could of done any better with what was left on the shelf.

Let it go.........just let IT go. Let's hope Vandy does not have an epic Offensive game next week.....their defense is decent.

GBO!!!

Should not be this bad. I am embarrassed by this defense. We do not deserve a shot at any championship when you embarrass yourself by not playing defense.

Most yards given up in the history of our great program. Big deal or no?

Yes, it is a big deal. And Shoop, Strip, Thig, and Martinez need to fix it. Through better scheme and recruiting.

But we walked away with the win. With the injuries we have racked up? I am grateful for the win, no matter how ugly the stats got, or how loud the whining pimples on the ass of Tennessee want to cry.

Florida too. Held lsu to 10 with backups. Go vols.

This. Like I said, I wish this team could have won the East, but they laid an egg in Columbia, and in the end UF might have done us a favor in winning the SEC East. Bama would absolutely destroy this defense. So I'll take 9-3 over 9-4 coming off a blowout loss (and it would be) in the SECCG.

This can still be a 10 win season, despite our injuries, and our defense. I think this offense can score on anyone right now. Except Bama.

At this point, UT is playing for a 9-3 finish, and a bowl win. Another brick for Butch, and hopefully recruiting momentum. This team has speed to burn. Now we need wide butts on the OL and DL, and defenders who can tackle. Those are the missing pieces heading into 2017.

Have to beat Vandy, and then everything downstream of that is working towards 2017. Shoop gets a pass. CBJ gets a pass. DeBord probably gets a pass. Beyond that, I'd take a hard look at some of the position coaches. There are some serious problems at the fundamental level with our play, especially on the OL, pass coverage, and tackling. If that does not fixed, UT will be an 8-9 win program. It is what it is.

If UT is to get to the next level, it starts with recruiting. Everything beyond that falls on the coaches. If CBJ is our next General, he'll know what to do. If not, then he becomes a placeholder for the next candidate.

Go Vols.

With the injuries we have its a miracle they didn't have more. In all seriousness can any of us remember a rash of season ending or extended time out injuries as debilitating as our defense has suffered this year?

I am not convinced we will beat Vanderbilt even though I can hope!

Tim Priest, a great DB in his day, has harshly criticized the technique taught to the DBs all season. He said it simply "does not work"

Yep and I'll take his opinion on the matter over anyone posting here. DB coach has to GO.

To Alabama? Maybe not so much.

To 3-8 Mizzou? Yes.

Hot garbage. If not for Dobbs, we might have lost this game. On Senior Day. At home. To a 3-7 Missouri team.

This defense is fundamentally flawed. Failure to set the edge. DT's pushed aside. Horrible gap discipline inside. Missed tackles by the dozens. DB's don't turn and find the ball. Over, and over, and over again. No improvement in game, or from game to game. Injuries can only explain so much.

Kongbo's TD was blind luck; he got blocked inside, and then just stood there. QB threw the ball right to him. At least he knows what to do with the ball when it's in his hands. Now someone please teach him how to find it, and tackle it.

Shoop talks a good game. Be nice to see his defense play one.

Go Vols.

Yeah, that 30 point cushion was cutting it close...

That 30 point cushion was the product of our offense, and a lucky pick 6 by a lazy undersized DT.

You trust this defense against Bama? Clemson? North Dakota State?

I don't. Defense wins championships. Ask Bama.

Right now the offense is clicking. If not for that, we might well be 6-5.

That's cutting it way too close.

Go Vols.

Could've just said Bain and that would have made the point

Man every team has injuries but the backups don't have to look like a jr. high jv team. the defense doesn't know how to tackle and probably doesn't want to learn.
our defensive ends spent their time trying to get sack stats instead of helping our woeful tackles by being under control. just embarrassing to watch.
