I have been a heupel fan since the hire but…..6 years in why are starting a true freshman. Milton and hooker were Pruitt recruits and the only reason Aguilar came here is because of the Nico situation? Is he not a good offensive coach? Defense is fine this year. We may beat auburn today I’m just curious on everybody else’s thoughts

Yeah, we should be stable at qb but we're not

From what I've seen, CJH does not have the ability or skills to prepare his teams. Being totally sincere, I think we win in spite of him not because of his coaching. How can they practice all week and come out and look so unprepared ? We are a major freaking college program and we stay in a rebuilding year. Why did it take an entire half for Josh to pull Brandon ?

What concerns me more than anything, was at ½time CJH said FB was pulled cause he wasn't 100% and he wasn't seeing the field.
If he wasn't 100% before the game, WTF we were thinking starting him instead of Gmac?

6th year no longer relevant because you don't know from year to year what your QB situation will be. and when flipping a roster every year, you don't know how stable your roster will be. Every year is year one now. This is true for every program. they are all in year one every year..

Wonder how Georgia does it ? The don't seem to suffer the rebuilding phase we go thru ever year. LSU paid all that money for that QB and coach and may not even get into the play offs.

Dude Heupel has lost his edge and he’s paranoid. I hope somebody hires him after this year. He doesn’t recognize talent

Depends upon how close to 100% and what is ailing him. After 4 games, not many guys are 100%. Once you bench the starter, then we may be back to a real QB battle. Whoever loses out on the final QB battle will most likely transfer (like T. Jackson and J. Merklinger).

Heupel and Tennessee got outbid in the portal.
Some of you have such short memories.
- Lane at MTA Ring a bell?
- The Texas Tech kid was a good miss. Soresby

We did go hard in the portal. But we liked what we had on our roster.” Enough not to overbid.
Personally I think they made the right call.

Did you see how celebratory the locker room was as CJH was handing out game balls like Oprah? That’s the problem - we celebrate a struggle win at home vs an unranked team while top-tier programs and coaches would preach how that type of performance isn’t going to cut it going forward. We desperately need a couple of intense, in your face guys to offset the marshmallow approach currently in place.

sign a lot of high school kids and don't take many portal kids.

31 signees last class and only 10 portal
This is the opposite of what I would do. They don’t stick around, you’re just bulking them up and training them for the competition. I’d raid the portal and other teams rosters before I wasted my time and resources on 18 year olds.

Why did it take an entire half? Because it proved he had been wrong.

Thing that concerns me the most is that the decision on the starter has been determined in practice on at least 2 occasions now in a QB competition. The verdict is still out but we know for sure the wrong starter was chosen between Milton and Hooker.

Can this be the case this year as well?

I’m not sure and only time will answer this one, but obviously, someone has an issue evaluating performances in practice or some guys are just gamers and don’t practice well. We shall see as this year moves on.

Go Vols! 🍊

I don’t even mind the QB situation. I mean it’s just so hard to know what you have there. What pisses me off is we didn’t address the interior Oline adequately. You go into the year with Sham as a starting guard. Is there anyone on this board that could tell you that was a disaster waiting to happen?

And I know we tried on Leavitt as well. But we could’ve got a better option imo than Staub. Hell Missouri got a decent option, several other small schools as well. You can’t tell me we couldn’t do better there. But again I’m fine if you want to run with the talent you have in your team as long as you put a badass Oline together to help your young qb. I can’t believe Josh thought this Oline would compete with teams like bama and be successful

Evidently not. We started a freshmen who has proven it was a bad move. Not saying we go out and pay 6 mil for a leavitt, but we could’ve reached for someone.
