December 7, 1941! I know most of us were not around then but from what we've heard, read and seen in the movies, this is one day that some of us won't forget.
Don't know how many of you are history nuts.
I know Jay Leno asks people on the street about geography, history and landmarks and it's amazing how much people don't know about this country or it's history. :shakehead:

Its nice to see someone remembring the fallen and the sacrifices those brave Americans made.

It is hard to imagine, but when you think about it, it was not really that long ago. How we forget so easy.

Jay Leno also did one about the Civil War and a lot of people said 1960's-1970's.

Agreed. I kind of worry for the future though because I can see a day when people do not reflect on what happened at Pearl Harbor. The few school-aged kids that I know seem to spend more time being indoctrinated with moral relevatism than actually learning anything useful. People who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

I'm an AF vet! Retired AF E6 (1990). Always think and pray for our troops. Remember, FREEDOM isn't FREE! It's paid for by so many lives to help protect us.

My brother was stationed at Hickam AFB. He had bullet holes in his office from the attack. Almost half of the buildings are protected historically, so hardlyanychanges have been made.

I need to find those pictures. They are pretty cool.

To quote Lewis "Chesty" Puller, the greatest Marine, for that matter the greatest combat soldier in American history, "Our Country won't go on forever, if we stay soft as we are now. There won't be any AMERICA because some foreign soldiery will invade us and take our women and breed a hardier race!"

You are going to get the Alvin C. York crowd agitated.

I would think it would be quite hard to argue against Lewis Puller being the greatest combat soldier in American History.

"You don't hurt 'em if you don't hit 'em."

When an Army captain asked him for the direction of the line of retreat, Col Puller called his Tank Commander, gave them the Army position, and ordered: "If they start to pull back from that line, even one foot, I want you to open fire on them." Turning to the captain, he replied "Does that answer your question? We're here to fight." At Koto-ri in Korea

"They are in front of us, behind us, and we are flanked on both sides by an enemy that outnumbers us 29:1. They can't get away from us now!"
- Lewis B. "Chesty" Puller, USMC

When the Marines were cut off behind enemy lines and the Army had written the 1st Marine Division off as being lost because they were surrounded by 22 enemy divisions. The Marines made it out inflicting the highest casualty
ratio on an enemy in history and destroying 7 entire enemy divisions in the process. An enemy division is 16500+ men while a Marine division is 12500 men.

Yeah, I know that. I was just a little confused about who RTE was talking about at that point since he said that we have only been attacked once in recent history. I was just trying to figure out if he was talking about the 9-11 attack as the recent one or if he was talking about Pearl Harbor. Guess I should've just asked that instead of beating around the bush for whatever reason.

I can see clearly now.

I won't disagree with that. I just think that the terrorists we want are not in Iraq. They're all over the world now.

There's a difference between terrorists and insurgents.

GWOT: Global War on Terrorism.

Yeah, insurgents are different. Some may even compare them to American Colonials.

They fail to see the difference. They are fighting to re-establish a tyrannical way of life. Not independence. I for one, would be glad to get out in due time. But it ain't happening until things settle down.

But enough of this OWB. How's ole VA. GA is cold and rainy.

Geez, I even take threads about Pearl Harbor off topic.

They have been saying it's going to snow here for 3 weeks and nothing has happened yet. :disappointed:
