You can say what you want: we got demolished by both Alabama and Florida last year, and times have been better for UT and Fulmer's rear-end.

But considering the events that have happened since the 3rd Saturday, I think Fulmer has shown that there is alot more than the wins and losses being a headcoach.

The fact that we were 3 for 3 getting two 5 stars and a 4 star eligible and on the field by week one speaks volumes for Fulmerites. Not only that, we replaced the majority of our coaching staff and there is more optimism today than any other day for the last 5 years.

Yeah we had the 36th recruiting class last year. But add in the 3 HUGE additions and the fact that around 10 of these freshman will play by the UF game, things aren't near as bad as they seemed back in February.

I think what we have today in 2008 is a TEAM. United by their coaches, and a commradere that I have not seen in years. Coach Fulmer would've took his lumps as usual if GW would not have gotten in. And I know we won't truely know until late Monday night how much better we are, but I think Fulmer deserves the majority of credit on this one. His players have trusted his coaching hirings, they've bought into the system, and he went up to bat for each and every one of them.

For once, lets give props to Fulmer (and Slive and Hamilton too) today, because I think he deserves it. Now lets see what he can do with a star-studded team.

Go Vols.

I agree. He has had his ups & downs, for sure. However, his winning % is among the best.

Hamilton gave Fulmer a raise for mediocrity, and Fulmer hasn't seen an SEC Championship trophy on his shelf since '98. I'm not a fulmer basher by any means, but it's hard for me to give him "props" until he shows he can play with the likes of Urban Meyer, Nick Saban, Les Miles, etc. consistently.

The same goes for Hamilton. He's done a great job with renovations and the like, but he's done alot of things that i'm not crazy about either. Giving fulmer a raise last year was beyond ridiculous. He's done nothing but praise him since he's been here, and to me, going to SEC Title games, but not cashing in while you're there, doesn't merit a pat on the back.

We will see this year if he earns that raise, I think the team will do well. We will know soon enough.

Its beyond me why during the Bama game, CPF diverted from AF avg. 9.8 ypc and down 7 at half to EA with a broken finger...however...CPF has done an outstanding job in this year's prep. The rest of this year is about coaching execution...the talent and ability to get it done is there.

not to rain on the parade, but while i agree the momentum is there......the only thing really lacking is some significant on field success.

it'd be nice, and not just to validate CPF, to do something significant during the course of the season that would make recognition of what has gone on the past 9 months for this program worthy of noting.

otherwise, it's just ho hum 8-9 wins and bowl. and that's just the truth. it's not bad. it's not great. its.......the same as the past two years.

so, don't get me wrong. i think the momentum is there. it's there for a reason. it's time to take advantage of it.

I'm not taking sides here either way, but I will say this about Fulmer. Like him or hate him, I really believe he cares greatly for his players, he is true to the program, he is an honest guy and I really believe his players love and respect him as well. For example, when Gerald Williams made this statement today, you could tell he was very sincere. Fulmer might not be the only reason that Gerald has stuck by his commitment all these years, but I bet he had something to do with it.

Quote:
“It was tough, but I love UT. With all I’ve been through to get here – it feels great. I’m excited to be wearing orange and playing for Coach Fulmer, Coach (John) Chavis and my teammates.”

Well-stated and well-placed threat that doesn't deserve to be merged, but it will be. And, I understand why. If you haven't taken a position on this yet, you probably won't.

No debate here. Fulmer is THE man!

Go Fulmer! Go Vols!

Nice avi...Hacksaw!...I met him a few years back and he is the same size as I am (of course a whole lot meaner)...I was surprised. He was very personable, remembers well and appreciates his time at UT.
He's one of my all time favorites, without a doubt the best nickname of any Vol, IMHO.:good!:

My Goodness... the Fulmerites can't wait to pounce on an opportunity to gladhand their guy. Can't we devote one day to celebrating the student athletes (you know... the guys that don't make millions of dollars) and who lay their bodies on the line for our entertainment? Can't this wait until Tuesday? Today is not the time for a Fulmer, Hamilton or Slive pep rally.

All the more to discredit Fulmer is the fact that he can bring in some good ones but just flat out cannot coach them up. As a whole his players simply do not improve while they are here - anyone can see that. His teams has to have vastly superior talent to pull out a win.

I have always thought highly of CPF. I think he has done awesome things at UT. I'm not about all these Negavols that ask for his head. So what we don't win a NC in 10 years. Neither does a lot of other programs, but what CPF has done at Tennessee is remarkable. I hope he stays at UT until he is ready to give up coaching. You look at the recruits he's already landed for next year. Hear Hear to CPF!!!

Don't kid yourself. If we struggle at all to put away UCLA then it's a harbinger of ass whippings to be dispensed to us in the near future. We won't know anything about this team until the Florida game. Every team seems to be extremely closely knit until the losses begin. Coaching has absolutely nothing to do with it.

Going 10 years without a NC is fine. Winning zero SEC championships in that span is very disappointing.
