5 Reasons Why Tennessee Can Win the SEC East in 2017

I think the injuries to the OL which kept them from having the same starting lineup week in and week out had more to do with inconsistent play than Mahoney. We had several different lineups throughout the season.
Makes it difficult for the OL to play as a unit.

That and a S&C coach..

I'd agree with injuries playing a part, but 2015 had pretty atrocious oline play as well, and even in the beginning of 2016 when the line was relatively "healthy" they were still pretty poor as a cohesive unit. I hope that Wells is an upgrade over Mahoney, but I don't think we are going to know one way or another until GT. Bringing Rock in is definitely a win, and hopefully will help with limiting injuries.

kicking game made me laugh a little, like they arent serious right.....punting game maybe, i dont have a ton of faith in our kicker, like the young man, but wouldnt be willing to bet on him making one that we really needed, he has regressed from year one...shall see though

Not because the Oline was providing superior protection, or opening holes in the defense for the RBs.

A lot of fans(yourself included?) are going to be scratching their heads wondering why plays that "worked" in 2015/2016 don't work in 2017, and the reality of how many busted plays Josh Dobbs saved with his legs will finally sink in (maybe).

i agree with this. the o line hasn't been good.

hoping the s&c program helps, and that Wells turns out to be better than expected.

i read the article yesterday, and the important part of the title is "reasons why Tennessee CAN win the East", not that we will....

at the end of the day, as has been said plenty of times, we have a lot of questions heading in to 2017. plenty of new faces on the field and sidelines, and if they get more right answers than wrong answers, things could work out pretty well.

but if we struggle with chemistry on the sidelines, struggle with depth on the LOS, chemistry with new QB....

well, we'd have more wrong answers than right ones, and you're probably staring 7-5 in the face.

bottom line...there's questions that will have to be answered for it to go one way or the other.

now, i'd lean toward the 7-5 version just because of so many changes, hard to imagine that we get all the right answers right out of the gate. but if we did, here's how we CAN do it.

and it doesn't hurt that the SEC E is still not very good. i do think GA is going to be pretty good. FL has questions, we have questions. if you're USCe or KY, you look around and think you might have a shot at it, for the same reasons we think we might.
