Back in the day, I worked as a Product Specialist for Pioneer. I'll never forget flying out to the left coast and touring the facilities. At the time, the biggest buzz was about the state-of-the-art Laser-disc facility.:)

Those things could kill someone. You know they were trying to resurrect the LP though. :p

I guess game developers, and people who need huge back-ups, are their only real market. Wonder what kind of cost we're looking at per disc in the future, and if we'll need an even more expensive Bluray burner.

Do you guys foresee the next Xbox having a blu-ray drive? I personally think it has to.... Will Sony allow it? If not I don't see Xbox winning a battle in game comparison once the 400gb disc hits (luckily they should play in all existing blu-ray players). I've not read sure fire release date but in 2013 the are also making the statement that 1TB disc will be out.

Blu-Ray is a format, not a proprietary technology. Sony might have developed it, but other companies manufacture the drive. As far as now for the X-Box, I would say that sometime next year we will see an external option like the HD-DVD drive was. If it doesn't get one, it could be VERY bad for Microsoft.
