These 2 rivalries will dictate the overall success attained by the new HC. Recognizing that, and assuming one of the names on the board currently will end up being hired (Kelly, Leach, Kiffin, etc), answer this....

At 4 years now, how long will the Gators streak run until UT breaks it?

At 2 years now, same question for the Tide's streak?

I honestly can't "see" a clear path to ending either, barring a significant upset in the next 3 years. Answering these 2 questions should be at the core of this hiring process. Turn these 2 series around, titles come. It's that simple.

Houston Nutt might disagree. I get your point though, but I don't think you circle two games on the calander and say that is how the season will be measured. Right now, I'd happily settle for someone who can come in and win the other 10 games for a few years.

I don't care who the coach is next year, I don't see us beating either of these teams.

to me, what it boils down to, and this is where expectations have to be tempered with a little reality, being competitive at the top of this conference.

if that's the case, you would expect the record between these teams......GA, FL, TN, and Bama to be a little closer to .500.

that's not unreasonable. win at home. take your chances on the road.

but 0'fer against Meyer, Saban (while at Bama).........that's not good.

CPF's record against Richt is closer to respectable, but only one win against Miles, losing record to Tubby.......

the new guy isn't going to win them all. and we'll lose to all those teams again.

but it just can't be EVERY freakin' year.

is that too much to ask?

i think not. Go Vols.

We should be competitive right out of the gate with the right guy. I am not saying we will beat either one the first year, or saying we won't, but I expect the yearly beat downs to stop pretty quickly.

I've already got the UF game circled on the calendar for next year. UT must win that game. Hopefully, Tebow and Harvin leave, and I think with the right coach, UT has a chance!

Only if he's a player-coach who happens to play quarterback.

don't forget 1 in a row to Wyoming!

Translation: I think we will all cut a ginormous amount of slack to the new coach next year.

honestly, while a losing streak to your rival hurts a coach and a big loss isnt great either, your rival or rivals winnning a national championship is like a bomb going off as far as fan base goes

I think Tebow will be back.

it's iffy. normally i think he'd pull a manning and say how much he loves UF and wants to stay for his senior year. But at this point the NFL is not going to be having a season in 2-3 years :)furious3: owners) and if they do, the 1st round rookies after this draft are going to have a severely reduced pay cut from the rookie salary cap they'll almost certainly put in a new CBA.

If it weren't for this money uncertainty in the NFL, i'd almost be certain he would stay

If Tebow stays for his senior year, fuhgedabout it.

And if both Tebow and Harvin stay, then you should assume another whuppin is in store.

I was just pointing out to the two posters who suggested that UT might hire a great coach and snap back out of their funk and beat UF next year, that odds of that happening are .. not so good.

Actually neither of them said that we would beat you guys. One said a chance and one didn't make a prediction. It was just another case of you coming in here and spewing your arrogance. Nothing more.

VolinthaATL is correct. Neither of us said UT would beat FLA next year.

All I was saying is we should at least be competitive fairly quickly with a good coach. I never said we would beat you guys next year. In other words, hopefully the games will not be over by halftime as they have been the past few years. That is all I was saying.

If our new coach can average .500 against Alabama and Florida, then I will be very happy. I think the way the team has played against the Gators is what really got Phil's seat so hot. Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't UTK record 5-12 with PF at the helm against the Gators.

Of course 50% will be great for 2 years, then I would like to see us put them in our rear view mirror.
