With Georgia struggling, does anyone else think this is a realistic goal/expectation for the team this year?

I've already pre-ordered my "3rd in the East, 1st in our Hearts" t-shirt from Sports Seasons.

We're going to lose to Georgia. We also could very easily lose to BOTH Kentucky and Vanderbilt.

In other words, NO.

If the Vols continue to make progress on offense, and the defense improves on third down, I think they have a chance to win six or seven games and finish 4-4 in the SEC.

I'm not sure if that will get the Vols to third or not but if they finish 5-3 in the SEC they could finish in third place. Just not sure who the five wins would be. At this point, UK, Vandy, and Ole Miss are likely. That leaves the Vols with Bama, UGA, USC, and LSU. It is unlikely the Vols will beat Bama or LSU. I think the Vols will compete with UGA and USC with a possible upset of UGA.

It looks like 4 wins in SEC play is about the best you could hope for with this team and the remaining schedule, but like I said I'm not sure if 4-4 will get the Vols to third or not.

I think UGA is winnable and for that matter so is LSU, however unlikely it may be. I do not see SC or Alabama being winnable games barring the Vols playing well above their heads and those teams playing VERY poorly.

I saw progress yesterday, just not enough to beat a team that is more talented and deeper. Our lack of a pass rush killed us, as did the turnovers. It is what it is.

Being honest, I think we will beat UAB, lose to LSU, beat UGA, lose to Bama and SC, beat Memphis, Ole Miss, and Vandy, and lose to KY. That would put us at 6-6 and 3-5.

Of course, there are so many variable in terms of improvement, injuries, etc for both the Vols and our opponents.

I think we finish 4th with a 3-5 record. The problem is that in order to finish 3rd we would have to upset LSU, UGA or USC on the road or beat Bama at home. I just don't think we are capable of doing that. Secondly, it's not out of the realm of possibility that we finish 2-6. I'm not really sold on UK, but we have to play them after their bye week.

With the exception of Bama, I believe we have a chance of beating anyone remaining on our schedule. Conversely, I believe we are capable of losing to anyone remaining on our schedule. It's going to be a crapshoot with inconsistent performances every week.

Definitely not going to beat UGA in Athens...maybe if it was a home game.

We'll definitely be 2-6, unfortunately.

Actually, UGA is in the same boat as we are, both inexperienced and lack in depth. Don't let that Arkansas Or USC JR game fool you, UGA kept playing and both Ark And USC JR quit and that's why they kept them games close. Tennessee beats UGA.

I think we should expect them be at least 3rd, i don't think that is asking too much. They've shown they can play, just need to stop making mistakes at critical times in the game. We lost to gators already. UGA looks bad but they'll have aj green back so it will be tough since its also away, but its winnable. USCjr looks good this year, I don't think we can beat them like in years past. I know vandy beat ole miss, but by the time we play them i think we'll be able to take them. Kentucky will be a hard game, but they always find a way to lose to us.

Right now we don't have that much depth, but I think these young guys will grow up during the season.

Sad when we have to argue about taking third place in the East. Still a lot of "what ifs" out there. Anything could happen.

This season should be measured as how we finish, starting with Ole Miss. We will know then what kind of future trajectory we are on.

We have a chance to upset Georgia, LSU, and USCe.

We should be trying to get to a bowl game at 6 - 6 if necessary. We need that practice / experience.

It's going to be a tough year. We all knew that going into the 2010 season.

If we don't steal a win in October, I think maybe 5-7 is very possible. This young team is going to be tested week in and week out. Kentucky looks good this year, but momentum and the streak has always favored ut in November. I do think the lsu and Georgia games are winnable if everything plays right. Just will take a lot of breaks going in our favor. Got 10 more games of football to test the players and even us fans for sure.

Between UGA Ole Miss Vandy and Kentucky three conference wins sounds about right for this team.

And I don't get where people are seeing the LSU win. I suspect that Dooley is a better coach than Miles, but they have far more talent than we do and are playing at home.

Terrible clock management and they still got third and chavis. They could leading by 14 in the forth quarter and ut still has a chance to come back.

If we are a in a bunch of 3rd and longs against LSU, we not win. Chavis or no Chavis.

3-5 in SEC play is most likely, though a win over UGA and 4-4 are certainly not out of the question.
