What was the 3rd down song that the players were talking about? Pearson mentioned it in his after practice video as well as bates.

Every 3rd down, the beginning of the chorus of the Lil Jon song "Turn Down For What" would play, except it would say "Third Down for What". The defense would be jumping up and down on the sidelines and Butch even stopped play to point out to the crowd that the defense has been trained to get hype when it plays and that we should be sure to respond in kind by yelling very loud. To quote, "There's a new rule in the SEC that we can have piped in music, but I don't think we need it, because we have you guys."

And before this turns into a band/piped in music debate, after the scrimmage and ice bucket challenge, Butch went over to the band and took the assistant stand beside the drum major and addressed the band. Couldn't tell what he was saying, but it seemed very positive and the band cheered when he was finished and chanted "Coach Jones! Coach Jones!", so it doesn't seem like there's any hint of bad blood between the two.

If 90K plus fans all do what they're supposed to on 3rd down, it could be seriously game changing. I was at the open practice. Love the concept of the fans helping pump the D to get off the field on 3rd down.

I would love it if UT got some cheers the crowd participated in. I know there are some but the the whole crowd isn't in to it.

I don't know what this new fan interaction experience is but I can't wait to see it!

I was honestly surprised how well it worked. I saw them run the "3RD DOWN FOR WHAT" graphic at one point without the song and instantly had visions of them playing a chunk of that song to a dead, or at best, confused crowd.

But people actually took to it pretty damn quickly. A lot of credit goes to the players for bouncing around on the sidelines while it played, too.

It seems like a lot of the ACC teams have gone away from all school band to playing songs over the loudspeaker. As long its a good mixture i think it will work very well.

I like it. The crowd got pretty loud in the highlight video after the 8 minute mark. Now times that by 2.5 to 3 times the amount of people and add a real game atmosphere to it. I can hear it now.. Ears ringing, heart racing, ahhh I can't wait!!

Also I like that hank hill version lol.

I am a big fan of things like this to help cue the fans to be involved.

At NC State the whole crowd would chant ' First Down' and do the referee first down signal in the same direction. On big drives, it was awesome seeing everyone get into it.

This seems like it could be on a whole different level. I can't imagine how loud it's going to be in big, close games on key drives.

Recruits are going to go nuts.

Im just curious, I wasn't there yesterday...but is the crowd singing the first part of the hook or just yelling "third down for what?"

Because the first of the hook is, "fire up that loud, another round of shots."

"Loud" is slang for weed....so. might be sending the wrong message.

The crowd isn't singing anything. They are making noise.
