37 Reasons Why.....

I have changed my tone a bit. I have let it fully sink in that Tennessee Football is on life support. That's not even being dramatic, it literally is on life support. We are staring a 2-10 or maybe 3-9 season in the face. But that's not the reason it's on life support. It may be the final nail in the coffin, but it doesn't have to be.

UT football is important to everyone here. Even the rival fans, the status of UT football matters to them. Listen, UT football is in the shape it is because of bad decision after bad decision over the coarse of 12 years. And that all starts at top. Poor decisions from boosters and board members time and time again. The fighting between these groups of people have created an absolutely toxic environment.

With that being said, what can we do as fans? I have the past couple weeks urged people to not go to games and make a statement that way...but you know what? I've changed my tone. We have done that in the past and nothing has changed. We have let Bama invade Neyland and nothing has changed. All we can do is support this Team and Coaches. Show up and cheer for them because quite frankly...Jeremy Pruitt, this staff and the young players we have on our team may just be UTs final hope.

No matter the record this year, as long as the young players keep improving game by game and you start to see some fight, we have to stick by this team. We can't add to the toxic environment that already exists. These coaches have to be able to pull recruits in to continue to stay afloat. It's going to be a long road, championships may be years and years down the road....but if we give this staff time to learn and grow together...then just maybe UT Football will take a breath on its own again. That is the only option we have. It sucks. But it is what it is, so let's band together and support this team and program until it either heals or takes its last breath.

Life support? Last breath? C’mon. Do you tally think UT is going to shut down the football program? That language is just overly dramatic.

Install a system. Recruit players to the system. Teach and develop players. It might be the equivalent of Ole Miss for a while, but last breath? No way.

We need JG out of the damn game if we wanna chance at 5 wins. Sad its come to this. Gonna need a few upsets just to get 5, sad state of Tennessee football.

He did so much good last year and we all had so much hope for him this year. It’s really sad, but he has held this team back from 3-1 right now at WORST.

If you want the Vols to show stay mediocre then be sure to stay home during the UGA game so they can pack our stadium and get plenty of pictures to post for all the recruits to see.

We have like 2-3 selling points and the fan support is at the top. If we lose that than we may as well shut it down.

Hah, Hah....I wouldn't go that far, but I do think we should take Bama off the schedule mainly because if we ever do get good, we could be faced with playing them twice.
Very true. However, Sabans years are numbered and what after him? Do you think the next coach will be as dominant?

With a post like that you really should put your fandom in the transfer pool. No Tennessee fan doesn’t want to see the 3rd Saturday in October.

@Hawkeye4588 posted the stages of grief Tuesday. You have reached acceptance.
I know I post a lot of funny stuff (at least it is funny to me) but this post is semi-serious because it is truly what I am seeing here at Volnation and with Tennessee fans in general. In case you forgot here are the stages:

1. Denial and Isolation: "There is no way we are this bad?" "There is no way we just lost to Georgia State!"
2. Anger: "Fire everyone with orange on!" "JG is the worst QB to ever step on a field!" "We are cursed!"
3. Bargaining: "Urban Meyer is a soulless goblin from hell but maybe he would come here if we offer him enough money.."
4. Depression: I think this where we currently are at BTW. "We are no longer a blue blood." "Tennessee will never win anything again in my lifetime."
5. Acceptance: "We might as well give Pruitt a few more years to stabilize the program. We can't get any worse."

Your counseling time is up. The bill will be in the mail.

It is on life support and that's not even close to being dramatic. No the program isn't going to "shut down" but it's dangerously close to forever being a shell of it's former self. What I mean is, the UT football we all know and love is on life support. The program will always be around, but it certainly won't be the program many of us grew up with if it keeps going down this path.

It would be tough to sell possibly to some. However we really should checker Neyland for the Georgia game.

Show the coaches, players, recruits, and the nation we are behind this school the turmoil is over.

Man the UTAD got you working overtime. You get a like for effort...

You are right that packing the stadium full of Orange and white is best for the program, however I think that is a tall order after the start to this season.

Many will have zero desire to put up with game day inconveniences just to watch us get our brains beat out. It’s really hard to blame them, even though it is not the best for the football program.

The expense, the travel, the crowds, the nightmare leaving the stadium, the high concessions, and a sure fire beat down is a tough sell. Most wont even be able to stomach in TV at no expense, or hassle, to them.

That GA St, BYU start to this season did a number in the fan base. Catastrophic damage to this season in a myriad of ways.

In the SEC if you do not fill your own seats most of those seats will be filled by the opposing team fans and the UTAD folks that don't give a rats axx about anything but money could care less. In other words the bean counters get theirs no matter what. It may be time for UTAD and fans to consider if it's in our and the institution's best interests to even stay in the SEC at all. If we're not going to be competitive, I can see no reason for us financing a certain W on the schedule for the likes of Bama, UF, and UGA in perpetuity. It may be time for UT to go conference shopping.
Please tell me you were drunk when you posted this! SMH

Since the coaching situation will either work or it won't,and there's nothing we can do about it anyway, it would be nice to talk about specific players and their development. I see some young guys on this team that give me hope for the future.I think we have the makings of a very good offensive line and our young linebackers are going to be great. At this point, I just want to see steady growth and improvement. I've changed my tone as well because the situation is what it is and, while we all need to vent from time to time, that doesn't reflect our more reasoned side. No need for the can base to turn on itself. GBO

If you actually want to do something positive for the players, staff and possibly recruits this would be it.

I appreciate where the OP is coming from and think that is likely what our fanbase will do...keep showing up, keep buying stuff, keep being the most supportive fan base in the country. What do we have to show for it? A middle finger from the Athletic Department as they count all that money we make them.

Forgiveness and redemption are gifts that are beyond us. I try to remember that when watching this football team.

The thing that amazes me is many act like there has been no improvement made. You don't have to be a football genius to just stop and look at the team. We have a much larger, faster and stronger team. The O line is huge compared to 2 years ago. I am actually seeing our players pancaking other players on blocks. I understand we are 1-3 and I thought we would be 3-1 at this time. In the games we lost we had way to many turnovers and penalties. Like the players say, for a play to work, ALL 11 must do the right thing. I just takes one or two missed assignments to blow a play up. Sometime you get beat on your assignment because the competition put a great move on you. That is why the game is played. Some of the penalties are out of frustration and that is because we are young and the players are pissed. Many of the hate losing as much as we do. I agree the record doesn't show it but the team REALLY is much better than last year. JMHO

Nobody likes this. But this wasn’t an easy fix. We are too far removed from easy fixes. I’ve thought Pruitt may not survive a 2-3 win season. Frankly it doesn’t matter at this point, because the season isn’t over and it hasn’t happened yet.

The best we as fans can hope to see is a rally to make a bowl. Very unlikely, I get it. But we need to keep supporting the team, we need a solid recruiting class. The young players seem confident in going to work. Again, to beat a dead horse but qb play has cost us two wins. Wins we needed badly for a bowl bid. But Pruitt and this staff know football, let’s hope it starts to show on the field in some form for fans
