Thugs does't come to my mind, but other things do. After being a fan for over 60 years, I completely quit watching all pro sports about 20 years ago. I don't know what has happened since and don't care.

Is that really very far from the normal rate for the general public? If my math is correct, that averages out to 1.17% of NFL players being arrested in the past year. I'd be curious to see how that stacks up to the general public

It's not even the general public you'd want to compare it to; it's males in their 20s. Whom I would assume get arrested at a higher rate than anybody else in America.

I came in here to ask this very question.

Surprised the number isn't higher. Dumb jocks and money don't always mix well. I understand making a bad choice or two. Many go from having next to nothing, then getting a couple checks worth more than they have seen in their whole life, I'd catch a charge too; definitely a public intoxication , nothing like Aaron Hernandez, Lawrence Phillips or Rae Carruth.

This is what happens when you give a lot of twenty-something alpha male (many of whom come from single-parent/broken homes) types a lot of money.

You can give them all the advice in the world (which the NFL has done a better job in recent years) and they won't hear jack till it's too late. But it's not limited to football players. Like a lot of lottery winners, most people just aren't preprared to handle instant wealth.
