I think if you could pit Butch Jones with top 5 classes against Butch Jones with top 25 classes, the first Butch Jones will consistently beat the second.

maybe, i do disagree, this game even tho we wanted it was not a must win.

You give as much time as sibling has to butch..different conversation.

these men fought hard..now after last week with our injuries..that was not in the news..ur exclaiming that we need 5* talent with a coach that has not had the same time as a well oiled machine as alabumma>

4 yrs/8yrs..foundation is there..build walls before roof is finished..maybe?

5* at every position is hard to compete with when ur injured..

#41..awesome as hell

So this is our 4th year and Bama has had 8 years to build the foundation for the program that just dominated us? That's the argument? Because in the 3rd year of that Bama rebuild they won the National Championship and have won 3 out of 5 since then. So 4 years out of their 8 year foundation work ended with a National Championship. I wonder what happens when they finish their roof? :)

Please guys just ****ing enlighten me which coach out there beats Saban regularly? Maybe I have forgotten, oh wait it doesn't happen. Freeze at Ole Piss beat him twice, Urban Meyer got him a few times also, but not consistently. Until Saban retires the Bama machine will continue to roll. It's also easy to say recruiting fixes everything, well that answer is double edged. 5 stars aren't easy to sell, Saban gets most everyone he wants because of the program he has built. We are still building a program

Their isn't a coach out their right now doing what Saban has done.its never been done before anywhere at anytime. Please show me a coach who will beat Saban consistently ?

I actually believe Saban is a good coach but I really believe he is a first rate program manager and where he is without a doubt unrivaled is in recruiting. I think most people realize that recruiting is where it all starts and there are a lot of factors that figure into recruiting. We had a couple of good classes. Saban has had the best classes almost every year he's been at Bama. No one is going to consistently beat the most talented team in the country. If you can't beat him on the recruiting trail or at least keep up with him, it's unlikely you're going to be able to even compete with him on the field with any consistency. We are not (yet) in his league but Clemson is. I think Ohio State is. Michigan will be there probably before us. If Texas could get a decent coach they'd be there. Same with USC. LSU as it stands now would be his biggest challenge in the SEC and getting rid of Miles was a step in the right direction for them. Now they've got to make a decent hire, someone who can use the amazing talent they bring in year after year. jmo.

In regards to Ssban as a program manager, look at the staff he's accumulated, not just the coaches. Everything about his program feeds into his recruiting. Saban complimented Kiffin yesterday on his being able to mold the offense the past few years around the talent they have coming and going on the roster. I mean, for real, Nick Saban's offense is running the read option this year and doing it better than guys like us who claim it as our bread and butter. He appears to be less intimidated by change than our guy.

Blackburn's job is to find that guy. Nothing is impossible. At Tennessee we demand the best and want results against the best.

we are not gonna ever beat Bama with 3 star guys. This trend is starting to worry me.

If I had any faith that the coaching staff could turn a 3 star recruit into a 4 star player before he left UT, it wouldn't worry me as much. However, we have players coming into this system, that leave worse than when they started as freshman. That's the trend that worries me, and will impact recruiting.

What we witnessed today is why you need 4-5* recruits, not 3*

Yep. And I don't like to knock individual recruits who are 3*'s since all teams have some 3* players and some will turn out better than that.

But overall it's hard to win at a high level when the bulk of the team is made up of 3*'s and that's where we're at. As long as this happens we'll be 2nd tier at best especially when we don't have superior coaching.

Fact is Butch is BLOWING it in recruiting this year. The 3 * millionaire is alive and well. Now that can change but as of now I am very startled and worried.

Everybody b!tched and complained when Dooley was only getting 3 stars in recruiting, but that's all that butch seems to be getting lately, I guess it's ok for him to be doing it. Some just don't wanna see that I guess..

Just wait for it, you know it's coming....the always predictable Cam Sutton was a 3*.

Welcome the 3 star recruits cause the 4 and 5 star recruits aren't coming in the door. Obvious why we got beat by Bama this weekend; they have much better recruits both on the field and in reserve.

We are not what we are hyped by Volnation fans to be.

You guys saying well sutton was a 3 star sound like Vandy fans saying well Matthew's was a 2 star. Are we really stooping that low?

Yes. Trust more the pecking among coal lumps to locate an occasional diamond than going straight to the diamond lode.

Romantic nonsense, of course, but who wants to live in a world without romance!?

You should probably drink more.

I don't drink but watching the Vols get manhandled makes me think about it. Appy State has never signed above a 3 star yet they kicked Tennessee's butt all over the field and except for a missed field goal and an extremely lucky fumble recovery that would have been our first loss of the year. I still hold to the fact that CBJ is not a championship caliber coach nor will he ever be. We have been super lucky this year and while luck still counts as a win you can only go to the well of luck so many times and then it runs dry. Anybody that thinks we have a good coaching staff is delusional.

So who is the coach he shoukd be looking at? Belicheck? Tomlin? Who? Who is going to just come in and start beating Saban on a consistent basis? You and these others make it sound like its just oh well we will just sign this guy and he will come in and consistently beat the greatest college football coach of all time. Thats fantasy land thinking.

It's crazy I see 5* guys recruiting to Georgia but they can't beat Vandy with 5* guys playing. We beat Georgia with a less talented, less experienced team given that most of our standout, experienced defensive players weren't playing.
