I don't get paid hundreds of thousands a year to be a defensive Coordinator but why do you run a 3-4 when you are getting killed in the run? IMO why not run a 5 man front and bring Berry or Hefney up as a weak third LB that can actually cover? I know our D-line sucks but at least 5 of them might clog up the middle. I have been a supporter of Phil and crew since there first game but they are getting close to Lou Holtz status old, senile, and the game has left them behind. A game I play from time to time had a quote once that simply stated "Adapt or die." I do believe that should be painted on Hamilton's wall. As much as it saddens me to say the era of good smash mouth SEC football are dead. The spread offense is destroying the old guard. If we do not make a change soon then we will slide into a depression that will take us 10's of years to recover from.

oh and please dear sweet baby Jesus please do not let Larry Slade screw up Eric Berry/:swoon3:

5 man front = DBs get scorched on deep bombs.

just because the spread offense has come along doesn't mean that smash mouth football is dead. there's no reason why a good smash mouth team can be successful if their defense can stop the spread option. easier said than done, but i think it's true nonetheless.

We got scorched with deep balls with 3 down linemen and got beat on the run....why not stop at least one?

Actually I think a lot of teams are going to have to start playing 3-4 D's in order to defend the spread. Of course we don't have the talent to do it right now, but that is probably where football will go as more teams adopt the spread. Then offenses will adjust and go back to i-formation power football. Everything works in cycles and the spread is nothing more than a modified single wing system. It's something old done in a new way, just like everything else that is genius for a decade.
