I believe that's the arguable case for playing these games going forward, but the schools haven't been paying NIL monies to this point and these kind of games have been an issue for years now. And if the amount for the entire AD is capped at $20 mil, then these kind of games that may generate an extra 1 or 2 million aren't really going to factor for a school with Tennessee's budget. That money is largely going to go toward staff salaries, facilities, etc.
But if that’s 2 mil we don’t have to get from donors, maybe those donors can contribute to NIL

Tennessee basketball’s opponent is set for this year’s ACC-SEC Challenge. The Vols will face Syracuse for the second straight season, traveling to upstate New York to face them this season according to Jon Rothstein. The exact date is not yet set.

The issue with the ACC-SEC Challenge is the same as its been the last two years— there are far more quality teams in the SEC then there are in the ACC. For the second straight year, Tennessee got the short end of the stick and will play a lesser opponent.

Florida at Duke, North Carolina at Kentucky, Clemson at Alabama and Virginia at Texas are amidst the other top matchups. Tennessee host Louisville in a non conference matchup in December, taking that potential matchup out of consideration.

Illinois must really want to avenge their losses to us. The game in Nashville could attract some Illini fans from southern IL.
The game in Knoxville 2 years ago had a pretty large number of Illini fans. Conversely, the game in Champaign last year was almost completely shut out to any Vol fans because there was just very little available on the secondary market. Smaller arena and huge demand.

We need that win at Arkansas. Barnes beat them in the SEC opener in the TBA in January, but football lost at Fayetteville in 2024. Baseball lost the regular season series at Fayetteville 1-2 and then lost at Fayetteville 0-2 in the super regional. Heupel does have another shot at the piglets in Neyland before the basketball team travels to Bud Walton, but I’m tired of losing to those hillbilly cretins.

I'd agree if this were the exception and once a year we played a premier opponent, or even an MTSU/Belmont/Tennessee St. in Bridgestone for the purpose you mentioned. It doesn't hurt in recruiting in the midstate, either.

I think the frustration is much broader in that this game is just another in a long line of games being played away from TBA while season ticket holders are being asked to pay more for an inferior product. Last year's home schedule cost more than it ever has to attend, and the quality of opponent was complete garbage with Norfolk State being the most appealing matchup in hindsight. The year before wasn't much different with the exception that we got Illinois at home.

Danny "Anything For A Buck" White has done a lot of good things, but his lack of being in tune with the common fan is dusturbing. College sports are becoming entertainment for the upper crust. Supply and demand, free market....I get all that. Most everyone else will just have to settle for watching at home.
December 6 is also Championship Saturday for college football.

Oh great. I adopt Tennessee 8 months ago as a bandwagon fan and now I have to watch the Vols beat Rutgers by over 20 lol. We weren’t even .500 with Dylan Harper and Ace Bailey. Can’t imagine how bad next season will be. You guys may want to kick me off the Vols bandwagon. I became a Rutgers fan in 1976–football and basketball teams went undefeated and basketball went to the Final Four. It has been like watching the Hindenburg burn ever since.

Welcome to the club! I was a student at Boston College back when we were in the Big East with Rutgers, and my parents moved to NJ during that time, so I'm familiar with the program. Yes, I was surprised how Harper/Bailey didn't move the needle there. I noticed some draft analysis of those two talking about how they succeeded despite the archaic offensive plan at Rutgers, yikes!

From what I understand, the NIL budget had to go to Bailey and Harper because they could have gone anywhere in the country. I can barely remember the names and positions of the other guys. We might as well have marched out Bugs Bunny, Spiro Agnew, and Zach Top. The final season record would have been the same.
