25/26 season BasketVols Thread Next Vs Oklahoma Wed at 7

What the hell are you watching?
I was watching his excellent performance in the second half vs Ole Miss. I believe that he will benefit from another season or three with the Volunteers and improve his chances of making and staying on a NBA roster. You may consider my opinion a selfish one, given that I’m a Vols fan, but I am genuinely considering his best interest.

For contrast, look at Dalton Knecht, who benefited greatly from his final season of college ball at Tennessee. He received an excellent rookie contract with the Lakers, but has received little playing time and is seeking a trade.

College game and NBA are completely different. Especially the schemes Tennessee runs. Ament would likely be costing himself tens of millions by staying and it wouldnt help his professional game any. Barnes has recruited several "one and done*" types at Tennessee and every single one of them hurt their draft stock during their one year at Tennessee. Chandler, Springer, Johnson, Phillips, BHH.

OK, do you believe Ament would be better served going to the NBA and wind up being assigned to a g-league team for development?

Ament isnt going to the G league. Even if he was, he'd get far more applicable coaching as he would be running NBA offensive and defensive schemes....

So, to surmise, you think Ament is ready to join the NBA now and will perform well enough to get significant playing time with a NBA team?

Chandler, lulz. Dude was too small. Had nothing to do with Barnes.

You are applying today's standards to 2021/22. That was the height of quick, small guard (Trae, Ja) era (not to mention Dame, Paul, Lowry, Conley).

KC was a and one done top 10 recruit that was either a lottery or top half in the first round in EVERY mock draft heading to 2021 season. Ultimately, his shot never developed..

If the NBA draft was held tonight, Ament would be playing by the end of the month...

If he was my kid, there is a 0% chance I would tell him to stay. He gets to the rookie extension quicker and has a shot to get at least 2 cracks at unrestricted free agent. He had similar entering season draft rating to Jaren Jackson Jr and Jackson will be getting his 2nd unrestricted free agency shot in age 29-31 season. Much better doing that than age 32-34 season if you want that last big check...

I read you, but selfishly, I want him to remain a Vol for awhile longer, and I think that he would benefit from his Tennessee education (and degree?) when he eventually transitions from being an athlete.

He ain't here to play school....

In NIL era, the goal is keep the starters academically eligible.

And that was Barnes’ fault?

He’s still smaller than all those guys as well.

It's not Barnes fault. But he didn't improve on draft status here either. Just like Springer, BHH, Johnson, Phillips. All 1 and dones that fell.

But there's no way I can look at that track record with one and done type players and the NBA salary structure and think its a good idea to come back for 3 more years...

No argument on the financial driver. Just seemed like you were saying Barnes ruins NBA potential.

Ruins is a strong word. It just hasnt been conducive to maximizing their draft potential.

Of course, it turns out we/pre college NBA draft rankings were 0/5 in their evaluations too...
