247: Pruitt Contemplating Change at QB

I cannot say for sure... but I would not make the assumption that we would have seen him. Pruitt has tried to avoid the controversy that has now landed in his lap.
He played him last year with out hesitation when JG went off the rails. I think he would do the same this year.

He made it sound as if he flipped a coin between him and Shrout.

The rumor was that he only made the change after a meeting with Fulmer.

Josh Pate doesn’t mind you throwing info out like that?
He’s talked about it openly so has just about every analyst about how Bailey should be starting. At this point why should JG even play? And that wasn’t a DM from me that was from someone I know

I believe BM is injured because if he were healthy we would have seen him. I think HB is the only viable option to JG.
It's been said on here by someone that claims to know him that he's ready to go when and if Pruitt decides to play him...

I get your point but Pruitt also says he plays whoever plays the best during practice. Remember JG is practice champion.

In thinking about your post I really believe that JG does show out in practice. This leads me to conclude, as he has shown in tight games, that his mental fragility is a very real thing. He is so afraid to make a mistake that he hesitates, "panics," makes emotional decisions and all around loses composure in critical moments. Can't blame the kid as he had the bejesus beaten out of him but doesn't appear he will get over the hump. When he plays with confidence and trusts his reads we see the player that is likely at practice.

I wanted him to do well this year and be the redemption story of CFB..... unfortunately that movie looks like it won't get filmed.

Yeah there's just no possible way to replicate the pressure of a game in practice.

The biggest thing in Pruitt’s mind is turnovers. Turn the ball over and your out. The real affection he had for JG is that he took care of the ball. The last two games that is not the case. If healthy I think he starts BM in a heartbeat. I think you’ll see HB tomorrow.

I would struggle but could accept a 3 or 4 win season if the rest of the year were used to establish the '21 QB and play/coach up the young guys who will need to play.

I buy Pruitt's argument that Covid has hurt them more than most. That seems to be true. That makes playing for the future all the more relevant IMO.
You never give up wins now for possible wins in the future. lmao

If that’s the case I think Pruitt puts him in last week. If he’s good to go this week I think you’ll see him tomorrow.

Well I agree. Anyone but JG. But those guys don’t get to see practice to really have a good grasp on who “should” be starting. Pruitt keeps that a secret for a reason

And his mode of thinking with when it comes to the QB position, is flat out wrong.

LOL... yes. Happens quite a bit. Coaches choose to play younger players and particularly QB's knowing that they will make mistakes.

And assuming there's another win on the schedule with JG running things is a stretch. Vandy... maybe. So there's really no great risk.

I remember Dobbs was just the opposite. He didn't practice well (reportedly) but he was a "gamer." Practice performance isn't always reliable.
Outdid Riley Ferguson going into their second year. Big reason why Riley left. All out of practice reps.

I just think JG happens to be very good at the type of things practices test. He's accurate, has a good arm, and knows the play book very well.

Practices don't test game-speed, thinking on your feet, or improvising. In practice, you don't have to instantly react from something you've never seen from an opponent. Those are the things JG seems to struggle with. And the issue is that those attributes are very difficult to coach. You either have them or you don't.

We also had better passes vs UGA this year where the wr did not have slow down and the d was actually respecting the pass.

So I guess those passes were a reminder too.
Did you see the latest thread regarding Qb W/L records ? For any Qb that has started at least a seasons worth of games , JG is at about 35% and the worst long time UT Qb in the last 40 years est. It’s not even close.

Yes because Jg could go out there and play solid against bammer tomorrow and turn around and completely fall apart against Arkansas in a way that only he can do.

Thats why there's literally no risk in playing these you guys.

At worst the risk is interchangeable.

Higher reward for building the QB position for the future. With the potential someone comes out better than JG by the end of the year.
