All on Fulmer!!!!
Johnny had 3 SEC championships in his last 6 years and left Fulmer a loaded roster. What did Fulmer leave Kiffin? A walk-on patchwork offensive line. Fulmer won 2 SEC championships in 17 years with some of the top talent in the nation.Yes it is all on Fulmer for winning our first Championship since 1951. CPF had 8 plus 10 wins seasons as our coach in his 16 years. Not a single 10 win season since he was fired by any Vols coach. CJM only had two 10 win seasons in his 16 years as head coach. Bill Battle had 3 in 7 years. Doug Dickey had no 10 win seasons.
Yep, all on Fulmer.
I agree, I was in boot camp when Dickey left us after the gator bowl loss.Really don't care about Fulmer getting another job.
I am a Vols fan before a Coach fan. The first NC since 1951 and none since. 10 Wins against Bama and the largest margin of victory 41 to 14 over Bama than any other Vols coach. Most VOL fans would kill for that today.
It was an exciting time to be a Vols fan in the second half of Majors career and in Fulmer's career. Dickey screwed us and became a Gator, and lost his last 3 bowl games. If Dickey had stayed he Maybe could have been remembered. He is just a footnote.
You had company. So many fans were upset because UT wasn't winning "big enough" that they couldn't really embrace the moment. The talent assembled was a direct result of Peyton Manning signing with UT. He was the Pied Piper of Knoxville that drew all that talent to UT. The stars aligned and UT had the run of my lifetime. Not sure those stars will ever align again and almost certainly won't in my lifetime. Still, the take away is to enjoy each game and each season for what they are. What's the old saying? "Take the time to stop and smell the roses along your journey" or something like that. This old man finds the seasons so much more enjoyable when you approach it that way. If a championship comes, it's just icing on the cake. If it doesn't, I still got all those moments through the year to enjoy. Just my outlook and opinion. To each his own.god, i didnt appreciate that season
Arguably Dobbs, Kamara teams should’ve pushed Bama for the conference title the year they were here. Butch had a perfect convergence of deep instate talent and a lot of legacy kids in the same recruiting class. Unfortunately he was too incompetent to even win the East. You had company. That 1951 team was a very good team. General Neyland was the coach and players like Hank Lauricella, Doug Atkins, Ted Daffer,John Michaels, Bert Rechichar and Bill Pearman, were all Conference that year and Lauricella, Daffer and Pearman were All American the following year. Jim Haslam was also on that team. Lauricella was also runner up for the Heisman Trophy that year.Really don't care about Fulmer getting another job.
