2026 Lady Vol Volleyball

loss was totally my fault...... I didn't start watching until Tn was up 2 sets.. I turned on the match and started the slide... if only I had kept away from watching :(

The best player we have faced this year is Pitts' Olivia Babcock. Babcock is the Volleyball National Player of the year for 2024 and 2025. Babcock makes the University of Pittsburg special and we were really never in that match. I can't imagine how good they would have been if two time all American Stafford had not transferred to Texas.

Good for Stafford. She deserves to be a featured player and may have transferred to get out of Babcock's shadow. She is 6' 2" and her running mate OH hitter Spears is 6' 3". When matched with MB Bunton who is also 6' 3" we were overmatched. Our two primary OH's Roger's and Stout are both only 5' 10". We have taller OHs with William's at 6' 4" and Dostic 6' 1" but they (for what ever reason) are not our best options.

We really need more size at the net to win these type matches. But to put the loss in perspective Texas' Volleyball budget is second in the nation at over 5.4 million dollars. We are not far behind at fourth with a budget of 3.9 million. I have no insight into our NIL dollars for volleyball but two years ago Texas' volleyball NIL was close to $300,000. Pittsburg just opened their Volleyball facility a $240 million investment named the Village Heights Arena.

I really wanted to win last night. Texas is a blue blood with three national championships. We had them beaten in set four and could not get a stop. I understood if it went to five sets we would struggle. Before the 5th set started and the camera zoomed in on Gary (Texas' libero) during their huddle, she said to her team mates, "Let's smash them." Then she backed that up with two incredible long runs to save points In the 5th set. A 4 point swing that would have given us the victory. It makes the lost even harder to accept.
