2025 Transfer portal - players leaving the Vols

Question remains, how many follow him out the door as well or will they rally around the next man up and be all in?
A million VN bucks say that Matthews is gone as soon as the next portal opens. At a minimum he will be "marinating" his entry again.

Time to hold open tryouts and come up with an annual allowance plus playoffs or bowl cash achievement bonus. In addition, leave early and forfeit everything.

You forgot Ricky Gibson. He wasn’t at the Spring Game and missed practice. No one is bigger that the “T” !!

I think a LOT of VOL fans are underestimating Jake Merklinger
He was an Elite 11 QB just like Nico and Gmac. He is definitely capable of putting up the 19TDs and 5INT In his 1st season as starter that Nico did last season IMO. Gonna need defense and running game to carry the load until he hits his stride...but Jake is a baller man. He could have gone just about anywhere from HS and has a full year in our system.

I doubt college football has much time left
It is trending like NASCAR was in the 90s you had to pay almost pay double for tickets from scalpers at Bristol. Now its half empty NASCAR made a lot of changes that may have been right in their mind but rubbed the fans the wrong way and they voted with their not buying tickets. I think not all but a bunch of college fans will start watching via TV and then the next step is just catching a game now and then. All the way to the way I am on the NBA I watch the hi-lites on the news and whatever I accidentally scroll to on line. It is where its going.

On3 has Lopez 100% going to UNC. If UT goes QB it will be poaching someone not in the Portal yet. There are no starters for UT currently in the portal. Not sure any would be worth signing for depth.

Dude the stands will be full and tailgates will be epic. Have a nice life, people that continue to come on here and say college football is done and all hyperbole. Come back in September and October and let’s check attendance. In truth it’s never been more popular, things might not be perfect now but the NIL and schools will adjust. But if folks don’t want to watch don’t there is still plenty of us the love Tennessee and there are still players that love to play here. I cheer for them and the University! GBO

You are absolutely correct. Unless one school decides to be the old school Yankees and just out spend everyone, this makes CFB a lot more competitive.

The Aggies went and did it when Jimbo was there. You got to recruit the total package, character and how much they are willing to work to continue to get better. How mature the player is, what are his goals. Does he has a good strong family support system. I think Tennessee will pay deserving players good money, but I am glad to see us not get sabotaged by a slightly above average quarterback thinking he deserves double. I maintain that the market will adjust, I think eventually the players making the most by and large will be junior and senior players. With a few exceptions that make more immediate impacts, them types may have freshman incentive packages where they could potentially make more based on their impacts of the season. GBO

Good luck young man

He looked good to me when he was on the field in games. I always thought he would get more playing time.

Ok. Serious question for anyone who sees this. When was the last time you physically attended a football game at Neyland?

Exactly...sports gone woke and broke. Not enough fights and mixing it up. If Nascar goes EVs...toast.
