2025/2026 Coaching Carousel

Some of you guys are probably following this closer than me but I see Dillingham took an extension at ASU and with DeBoer going on in the playoffs and probably staying at Bama, Michigan is running out of options.

It couldn't happen to a more deserving program.

They probably need a pretty good attorney also. Football is the last of their worries id bet.

if they aren't going after Kyle Whittingham they are missing out. pay him some big number to come in and stabilize things for 2/3 seasons and then let him retire.

That would be my plan but Michigan is a mess Whittingham might not want even for big bucks before he retires. Unfortunately, even with all kinds of crap going on, Michigan still expects their athletic teams to deliver.

I think a lot of admins, AD and higher, are going to end up leaving or getting canned and there will be lawsuits and probably even more chaos that will be covered up.

It couldn't happen to a more deserving program and I hope it's ugly.

It may be a matter of how big his retirement nest egg already is and specific family needs that decide if it's worth it. It is not a plum job right now IMO.

At this point their best option might be to just let Poggi coach next year with an interim tag and have a huge head start on next year's carousel, which is sure to be less crazy than this year's?

If he really is walking away after two decades, may have to do with his displeasure regarding the private equity deal that Utah made.
And a completely out of the blue announcement at a severly inopportune time at that.

In some ways I agree, but in others that just feels like another FCS. They unofficially already have that because a bowl game is basically their ceiling. I guess they could make an "FBS 2" and have their own playoff but I don't know....that just seems kinda pathetic.

It sucks but I think I'm fine with the "throw them a bone" playoff spot they all fight for is good enough and probably better than their own playoff. I think it's similar to how you could do the same with D1 basketball split it into another division and let the mid majors all have their own tourney but I think for them making the NCAAT is the prize and would be better for them than winning a less glamorous tourney.
If you do a 2nd tier BB tourney you effectively dismantle the NIT.

Chip Kelly going to Northwestern as OC. Thoughts and prayers for the folks out there saying Chip Kelly hates recruiting and would be selective on jobs where recruiting would be easier than other jobs.
