2020 Roster Review

Man im not trying to be one of those JG bashers bc i really respect that kids toughness but i will call it like i see it. U are basing your opinion off 1 or 2 games. He may very well start games 1 and 2 but that doesnt mean he will start the entire year so that makes him a place holder. That Bama comparison was not a good one. Bama did win with mediocre QB's but their roster wasnt just talented it was elite at every single position. They sending 8-10 guys to the NFL every year. They got 5 star recruits waiting 2-3 years to play. When did we ever finish with 5 straight #1 recruiting classes?? NEVER so it aint the same situation. We dnt need Joe Montana at Qb we just need someone who won't make freshman mistakes in their 3rd year. U are right that u dnt need a stud Qb to have success but u do need a competent one. Tee Martin wasnt some super prolific passer but he also wasnt going to give the game away and made the plays that counted. JG still being on campus doesnt mean squat especially when coach has publicly stated its a competition. It dnt matter what he did after the KY game bc the other qbs were either hurt or weren't even on the roster yet so who else was supposed to take the snaps. Coach is playing his hand exactly like he is supposed to when u are not sold on the other guys. I think we are all more confident in JG then BM or Shrout. He wins that by default. We also dnt wanna throw HB to the wolves if we dnt have too. We know Holiday is not ready and we are not sure whats going on with Hill so why not bring in a guy who could push JG. It just sounds to me like u would rather settle with what u have rather then turn over every single stone to be sure.
The kid from USC is not even going to be eligible most likely. Bring him in all you want and I still don't think it effects anything this year. You also need to take in account that our roster currently sits around 90-92 so you're going to have to cut some guys to add him, I wonder how that will go over with the team? Serious question, what winning plays do you remember JG making last year? I contend there were several that played a role in our wins. Had we had Bituli and Thompson the 1st 2 games and not laid 2 huge eggs in those losses we would have finished 10-3 and there would be a lot less moaning about him. He played a role in both losses but I will always contend that our defense was awful the 1st 2 games as was our whole team the 1st 4. Pruitt cleaned house after the Fl game and we've looked like a legitimate SEC football team ever since, JG included. I personally thought he performed pretty good considering he couldn't even tie his own shoes the last half of the season because of his hand. We have a talented roster this year. If we can find a receiver that can stretch the field a bit, if our running game can start producing consistently I don't see any reason as to why JG won't have a big year. How come nobody complains about JG being a slow decision maker when he completes passes? The throw and catch in the endzone that JG broke his hand on was one of the best plays in recent Tennessee history I feel. It secured the win, the pass was perfect, JG got drilled and knew he was going to get drilled and JJ made a heck of a catch. His and JJs toughness is what made that play yet I don't see any of the neverJG guys mention it as I guess somewhere along the line being a tough football player doesn't mean much to the neverJG crowd. I also never see the neverJG guys bashing Coach Pruitt instead of JG as coach is the one that keeps running him out there. I think we have a chance to win 10 games this year with JG at the helm. JG also has a couple of wins vs teams from the SEC West, something we've struggled with previous QBs. I think we win 1 or 2 of our big 4 games and run the table the rest of the way with JG/HB running the show as our #1&2 QBs.

Their situation is unique but we are a good QB away from being a very good/great team.

Its worth the risk based on what we know JG brings to the table.

some may not like this question/answer but...

question: how do you recruit a former #1 ranked QB transfer to your program when you have a 5th year SR starting QB returning?

answer: show him last year's game film of said 5th year SR starting QB :p
