2020 Presidential Race

Make election day a Federal Holiday and make it the 15th of April or whatever day the last day of filing Federal Income Tax falls on for that particular year.

I like the idea of moving election day (or tax day) to one week apart. But making election day a fed holiday only ensures .gov employees get another paid holiday.

We lost pines, oaks, chestnut...the only ones that did okay were the magnolias...20 inches of rain and 100 mile an hour winds they never had a chance...thankfully none hit the house...no power no water no gas down here...we drove to MS for food and fuel yesterday...our main roads still have power lines across them
Stay safe!

Certainly their leadership could publicly protest unfair closures that are capricious and arbitrary, use their influence to rescind as well as sue.

Protest to who? The oversight body? That’s the State Board of Elections.

You already acknowledged the SCOTUS decision removing DOJ oversight, so you already know that, now, there doesn’t have to be a justification, so why do you require proof of justification when no justification is required?

The numbers of polling site closure trends are clear and have been well researched. That constitutes a trend.
Again pure number of individual stations shouldnt matter all that much if the resources get used elsewhere in that district.

This is ridiculous. The Secretary of State does have a say. Brian Kemp has been cited in this thread as someone who aggressively worked to close polling places. The vast majority of the polling closures that we are seeing are in predominantly black districts in southern states... and that is being done at the direction of Republicans.
Do some research. He didnt order the closing of any. He said that some standard had to be upheld. The example given previously in this thread said that one of the stations closed had 12 people total vote there. Others weren't ADA compliant, so per state and federal laws cant be open to the general public. Hard to argue he reduced opportunities when legally they could be used without his input. Hardly nefarious.

Not sure what you mean, honestly.

Creating a new federal holiday only ensures .gov employees get that day off.

I'd rather move election day to a 3 day event, a Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Do away with all absentee balloting except for the military, .gov employees and civilians working abroad.

My goodness, how do we survive Christmas?
My company works. Our warehouses are moving goods and our drivers are on the roads. Many of our customers get much of their yearly revenue in the last 2 months of the year

That is a suggestion that I would agree with... but the Republican Party would never go for that.

This lays out specifically the information behind Georgia’s poll closures for the 2018 midterms and backs it up with data.
Midterm elections: Closed polling places hit minority counties harder
Yes, I see that USA Today article was from 2018, during the Kemp/Abrams election. Lots of stuff published during that time to help support Abrams claims that Kemp was suppressing the vote to influence the election.

From your linked article:

The number of voting sites has continued to shrink in 2018, according to election officials, voting rights experts and the publicly-available lists of polling sites for next month’s midterms.

Among the reasons: budget cuts, the struggle to recruit poll workers and shrinking availability of suitable sites to host Election Day voters.

Jefferson Parish officials said they closed all but two of the 23 sites because owners could not afford to make them accessible to voters with disabilities.
For next month’s election, just one additional polling place has changed since 2016. A nursing home has decided not to host, forcing its residents and others who voted there to cast ballots at a gymnasium about two miles away.

In Maricopa County, Ariz., election officials decided to save money by closing 140 polling locations before the 2016 election. The result: confusion, long lines and frustrated voters at sites across Phoenix – the state’s capital and a majority-minority city. The county also lost about 270 poll workers.

An analysis by The Arizona Republic after the election, found that both rich and poor areas in Maricopa County were left underserved by the lack of polling sites, but the review found polling places were particularly sparse in poorer areas such as west Phoenix and Glendale.

The U.S. Department of Justice, at the request of city officials, is investigating to determine if the county violated voting rights laws. A draft of a report commissioned by the county blamed the long lines on polling place closures driven by budget concerns.

Gee, it looks like the county, not the governor, made the decision about polling site closures, in this instance at least. Are others the same?

Like New Orleans and Phoenix, local administrators say some loss of election-day sites and workers is a response to state budget cuts.

Thousands of sites were closed because they don’t comply with the American Disabilities Act, and neither hosts nor local governments have the money or incentive to renovate them.

Other closures can be tied to early voting and alternative voting initiatives in some states. More people voting before Election Day means fewer sites and workers are needed.

Can you provide anything recent that supposedly impacts the 2020 Presidential election?

So they can do the same on an Election Day holiday, couldn't they?

Imagine this: Election Day Holiday Sales Events. Don't Forget To Vote and Take Advantage of Our Winning Ticket Items On Sale Now!

They can work and not vote? Strange goal but sure it can happen if that's what you want

A fed holiday helps a small group. It's essentially a worthless gesture

That is the goofiest thing ever. Does he think that the Revolutionary War and the founding of the United States isn't already being taught in our schools? Or is it that he doesn't want the bad things covered such as the treatment of the native population and the enslavement of blacks? Whatever it is, it's ridiculous.

It is a gross overreach of Executive power. Period.

That is Rasmussen Reports doing their thing... They currently have Trump's approval rating as being 8 full points higher than Trump's average approval rating on Real Clear Politics (RCP.com). That 53% is also 5 points higher than the next highest poll has him. But I guess this is one poll that isn't "fake news" ?
They are all fake news..... everyone just picks one that more closely aligns to their beliefs.

I think we should give them a broad general scope of history but mainly focus teaching them skills that they need to make it in today’s world..... we definitely don’t do enough of that.
