Does that save the Broncos the entire $23m or do they still take the dead cap hit ($13m)?
By releasing Flacco, the Broncos face a $13.6 million "dead money" hit on their salary cap, but they also save just more than $10 million against the cap, so the net cap hit overall would be about $3 million.

Reason #5049383827272 you don't over pay for a RB

The problem with using this as an example is we all knew something was wrong with him before they extended him. No idea WTF they were thinking.

In this case, though, they were also teetering way too close to the salary cap line; they were going to have to drop someone that was a big name or large contract.

The Rams had to elect to spread the $11.75 mil in dead-money cap space over two seasons, but which also meant they’ll only see about $5.5 million in cap room from cutting him...and they won’t see that amount available for them to use until after June 2 because of how they had to go about handling the cap hit.

Though the Jets were dumb enough to sign Bell

Other than having the $, they weren't a good fit for him. I bet if the Steelers had a do-over, they would gladly give that contract to Bell instead of tagging him. It's not all about that, but everything went to **** when Bell sat.

In 2016 they went 11-5 and lost in the AFCCG. In 2017 with Bell tagged, they went 13-3 losing in the playoffs in a game where their offense scored 42 against Jax's vaunted D. Then 9-6-1, no playoff appearance with Bell sitting. Then 8-8 with the triplets obliterated.
