ALL-SEC Honors were just announced.

2021 SEC Men's Basketball Awards Announced

Tennessee gets....not a single player on First or Second team All-SEC. Wild. If you had told me that at the start of the year, I would have laughed. Such a disappointing season.

Pons get's all defensive team. Doesn't get defensive player of the year, which is ridiculous. Keon and Jaden on All-Freshmen team. That's it.

Ditto for Kentucky, which is equally shocking.

Disappointing as this is, earning a double-bye without a single first or second-team player is a minor miracle.

Agreed. Lot's of "good" seasons by our players. Not sure I would argue anyone had a "great" season. I think it makes sense. Not sure we deserved any first or second team SEC players, but it's shocking nonetheless.

It is really surprising honestly. But like Jaden only averaged 12.5/3.5/3.0 and missed a couple games.

Crazy how Pons has been a candidate all year for Defense Player of the year in NCAA and SEC but yet is left off. Then we have 2 freshman that are really good and one of those is likely done snd going pro. The rankings are bogus.

Can’t say I disagree with it, honestly.

I don’t disagree that we are missing from all-sec although I’m not sure about some of the names who made it. Also, here’s my hot take. Pons is an overrated defender.

Agree. He's a hell of a shot blocker, but loses his man away from the ball way too often to be an excellent defender.

Hopefully this motivates the guys and we go on a run. On a side note, Scotty Pippen Jr being 1st Team is laughable to me. Yeah he averaged 20ppg and 5ast/gm but if your team is only capable of winning 3 conference games then that disqualifies you from winning any individual awards IMO. He also had a teammate average 15ppg and 9reb/gm and where did that get them? If he’s a top player in the league and he has a teammate giving him that kind of production, they should at the very least be a middle of the pack SEC team.

It seems odd to be that a guy who averages 11 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, a steal, and a block is the conference player of the year. He's a good player, but I really didn't see him being the player of the year or the defensive player of the year.

Is this a case of being the best all around player on the best team? And thus he gets the award?

I agree, kind of a head scratcher to me. I think Moses Moody from Arkansas is more deserving. I think he has 8 20+ point games, and 5 of those he scored 25+. And he’s averaging 26ppg against the best team in the conference with them splitting the season series.
