2016 Trap Game on the Schedule

Every year there is 1 game that falls on the schedule that seems to be in a bad spot against a good team. Last year it was Arkansas. If we played Arkansas last year any other time on the schedule I don't believe we lose to them. However because of where it fell on the schedule I felt it was a trap game.

This year to me the trap game is Texas A&M. It's a road game right after Georgia and the week before Bama. I hate where this game falls for several reasons. 1st it will be 2 tough road games in a row. 2nd week be fore Bama. 3rd No break to that point on the schedule which is front end loaded. 4th if Trevor Knight can play like he did at Oklahoma a few years ago, then A&M will be better than everyone including myself is predicting.

List yours and provide insight on why.

I don't believe Arkansas was a trap game. I just think we were a defeated team after the Florida loss. If we beat Florida we would've played more inspired and gotten a win in my opinion. I don't see any trap games necessarily and for the most part I don't really believe in trap games because I don't think you should overlook any opponent for any reason but the game that concerns me the most for some reason is Georgia. New coach, new system, possibly a new QB with talent all over the place but not picked to do anything special this year. And we all know how wild that game gets every single year. To me that's the game to look out for but I feel our guys will be prepared to take it to them so it doesn't become a 4th quarter game.

The obvious choice is A&M but I don't see how we overlook anybody on our tough 4 game stretch. If we do lose to A&M it won't be because we got "trapped" per se but possible just emotionally and/or physically worn out from the previous two games. Just my opinion.

Texas A&M. Yeah A&M is not the same without Johnny but we play UF, UGA and Bama before we play them... which is toughest stretch of games in the nation having going into one of the toughest places to play.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think we play Bama at the end of that 4 game stretch

TAMU. College Station is no easy place to play and we always seem to get our west opponent, aside from Alabama, on the upswing. TAMU always seems to come out of the gate strong and fizzle as you get into the back half of the schedule. I don't see how we overlook anybody in a 4 game stretch like that but I think TAMU would be the easiest to do so.

We know Florida has beaten us 11 years running. UGA is almost always a guaranteed close game over the past 5-6 games. Alabama is Alabama. As mentioned earlier TAMU is the obvious choice. If I had to pick one outside of that game I'd say Virginia Tech. There will be a lot of hype with that game and it'll be a different type of environment.

Lol at me and others who said uk last year.

Honestly I expect UT to be ready every game. I am confident butch is improving as a gameday coach, and Shoop was a great hire to improve the staff. The players are experienced and ready to win every game. This will either be Butchs shining moment or epic fail

Sorry for the semantics response, but for me a trap isn't a trap if you see it coming; it's just an obstacle.

We definitely see A&M coming. It's part of the gauntlet. No one, coach, player, or fan, is underestimating it or overlooking it. So, in my mind, it simply can not be a trap.

For me, Mizzou or USCe are the closest things we have to traps in 2016. They may not have many teeth, but that doesn't mean they're completely toothless. And we fans are totally dismissive of them. They're outside the gauntlet, which is where 90%+ of our attention rests.

So if there's a trap game (and I'm not convinced there is such a thing, not with these coaches and players), it would be in November, not October.

I agree with you. I think of a trap game as one that should be 95% a win. I can't call TAMU that. I think they will be extremely difficult to beat at home.

UF. Past two seasons, ppl have already declared that a win for us in the offseason. So I'm going to say the gators. Unless A&M's defense has improved tremendously, we should run allover them.

For what it's worth, I live in South Texas, am surrounded by Aggie fans, and none of them seem to have a lot of faith in their team this season. Multiple 5 star attritions and fairly middling performances the last couple seasons have people questioning both their coaching and their talent level. most folks in Aggieland are not seeing this game go well for A&M.

Arkansas was the one game last year where I really felt the effort or motivation wasn't there.

And Arkansas was a defeated team coming into Neyland having lost consecutive home games to Toledo and Texas Tech.

Agreed. South Carolina was awful last year and would have beaten us in Neyland if it wasn't for Malik Foreman of all people. They are the consensus worst team in the East according to the media. I'm not sure that I buy that.

Agree with this post. If we didn't have a bye week before we played South Carolina I'd be quite concerned.
