I'm willing to bet that we get WHO we want here. With a 5 star WR in Malone already on campus and the #1 WR in the 15 class (PW) committed to us, this has to be a huge selling point.

We have some top OL guys committed and will get more.

The top RB class of 2014.

All the tools to make a QB successful is here at TN.

I also know one of the sales pitches the staff is using to attract a top QB. I feel we get who we want here and should be set for years to come.

THE FUTURE LOOKS BRIGHT 😎

If Ferguson wins the starting q.b. position, then I am betting that we DON"T get who we want.

Fergy is a red-shirt freshman. Should he win the q.b. position, he will be a red-shirt sophomore once the 2015 q.b. arrives on campus as a red shirt freshman.. In 2016, Ferguson will be a red shirt junior, while the back up will be a freshman. When Ferguson is a senior in 2017, the back up will be a red shirt sophomore.

Once Fergy graduates, the back up will be a red shirt junior. What 5* or 4* q.b. wants to sit for three seasons and hold Ferguson's clip board?

Once he takes over as a red shirt junior, all of the receivers are gone. The O-line is gone! Hurd, Paulk & Scott are gone. The tight ends are gone. etc. etc.

If Fregy wins the starting q.b. position in 2014, then we miss out on our 5* or 4* q.b. from the 2015 class

I agree the QB situation playing out this year could dictate what QBs really look at UT as an option. I agree that if Fergs or Dobbs were to win the job, top QBs will likely see that as at least 2-3 years before they see much of a chance to see significant playing time. Worley wins the job this year(I think he does), and at least the QB coming in feels he has a fighting chance at winning the job for the 2015 season.

This really depends on how solid Fergy looks at QB. If he starts but doesn't look like the long term answer, I agree with the OP. Tennessee would look very appealing to highly rated QBs.

I get what you're saying but I don't see UT missing on a 4/5 star QB this class after not taking one in '14. It might not be the top 3 or 4 they're after but they'll sign a highly ranked QB, IMO.

Tennessee starts winning whilst playing an exciting brand of football and top recruits sign up...period ..HECK Bama doesn't play an exciting brand and they're holding tryout camps to see who gets the honor of handing off the ball...DAVID CORNWELL...COME ON DOWN!!! if Riley is the godsend that he's been hyped up to be,he might not stay for the redshirt JUNIOR year...much less senior...in short premier programs recruit AND land players at positions of depth....every year...or they're not a premier program.

You assume we stop getting top WRs, TEs, RBs and OL. More are out there ready for Butch to reel 'em in.

So Fergy beats out an upperclassman and your assumption is....a QB will be scared to compete with Fergy because he is an upper classman?

Having not taken a QB with this last class helps us.

agree 100%

I actually see a better chance we sign 2 4 star QB's this year than us not signing any

just see that as a highly unlikely situation

I kinda agree with you. Not unless there's a kid who really don't care about competing against all the young depth at the position

Or Ferguson is so good he goes Pro as a RS JR and the 2015 QB would be a RS So.

If he thinks he is good enough and wants to win Fergi wont scare him off unless Fergi sets the world on fire and that would be nice.

If Ferguson (or any of our current QBs) plays well enough this year to scare off a 5 star QB, we're in a damn good place. I'll allow it.

We WANT Gibson or Rosen. Do you really think we can land either of those guys?

I think you're forgetting about the other side of the ball there, home skillet. Defense is just a teensy bit important. Defense keeps the other offense off the field, which is just as important to our own QB as his offense.

If any 5* QB looks at our QB productivity / situation and is afraid to come here, then they should lose 3 stars IMO.

Probably a little early to speculate about how well Ferguson will do since he hasn't played a down yet, but if he really does turn out to be that good, he probably leaves after his red-shirt sophomore, or at least junior year.

Not sure I agree. (2) Elite 11 guys with 2 years in the program/system on campus and I'm the new guy coming in the door. I could see even highly rated kids looking at UTs QB situation and see a lot of bench time in their future.

If I had to guess it's Gentry or Williams for 2015. I think in the end Williams puts up good #'s and when Gentry decides to go elsewhere, the coaches take Williams commitment. JMO

Perhaps you're forgetting our massive haul of defensive talent just a couple of weeks ago? I'm more excited about the 2014 defensive class than I am about the offense which is saying a lot.

Can we come up with something to call Riley besides Fergy, Fergie, fergey or any of those variations cause it makes me think of the black eyed peas Fergie... And he deserves better.

Hopefully he doesn't piss himself like the above mentioned Fergie and we will be better off !
