2014 WV vs Bama

Could Saturday’s game play out similarly to the 2014 Bama and WV game? I predict that it will. I don’t think WV in 2018 has changed too much in the way they play and our Defensive and Offensive strategies could be very similar to 2014 Bama.

Yes, the strategies should be quite similar. Clint Trickett was a pretty good college QB after transferring up their from FSU (similar to Grier, except he wasn't quite as good). They also had Kevin White on that team who ended up getting drafted 7th overall after that season.

Although they won, Bama gave up a lot of big plays during that game. I don't think UT can afford to do that.

I agree about the strategies. Some thoughts:
1) Grier is more erratic than Trickett, especially under pressure. I expect at least 1 int.
2) I believe WV have changed defensive schemes since this game.
3) We won't be able to gash them in the run as often or as badly as Bama. We also won't play defense as well as they did
4) We will have to be a lot better at the QB position than Bama was to make up for our less potent running game and our worse defense. Fortunately, Bama's passing game stunk out loud that game as it usually does. I think Helton and YAC will have us completing explosive passing plays on Saturday.

Mostly I think that the strategies are the only thing we can really take from this. One thing is for sure, WV will be throwing dimes into tight coverage and will put up points. Hopefully we can win some defensive possessions and be equally dominant with our own style when we get the football.

Those guys had Amari Cooper, a good dual threat QB, 2 NFL running backs, and a solid Saban defense.

Interesting comparison. That’s all. We are playing a different style of ball now. I can see Tyson Helton and Kiffin holding the same philosophy and Kirby Smart and Pruitt D could be very close.

I just think the rosters are extremely different.

WVU was also playing the part of "plucky underdog" vs. Bama, while they are now 10 point favorites on Saturday

Let's see, one team is coached by one of the Top 5 college coaches of All-Time with NFL prospects all the place. The other team is coached by a first time college head coach with a defense that got shredded against GTECH, Vandy, UK, and Mizzou last year.

Other than that, very similar....

Well my philosophy is that I find Blake Lively highly attractive. So I guess by this rationale, I have the same chance as Ryan Reynolds does???

My point is that the style of play will be the same. I think we have plenty of talent and I am pretty confident that our D will be much improved.

You can dress and act like Ryan Reynolds all day but you’re still just ugly. I’m not saying we are 2014 Bama.

The only comparison that I see here is ...

WVU is in this game
It's game #1
WVUs opponent is from the SEC too

... I'm not sure what else is there. Surely the idea that UT is somehow similar to the #2 team in this game, is not running through anyone's mind.

I never said anything about acting or dressing like Ryan Reynolds. There seems to be some empirical evidence that you struggle with comparing things.

I am saying that we can act (play, strategize, etc.) like 2014 Bama. I think we may very well. I also think 2018 WV will play like 2014 WV. I enjoyed watching the highlights from the game.
