I have a question to all the recruiting gurus, after watching yesterdays ...I can't really even call it a game, more like a slaughter, but anyways it showed a lot of volnation what kind of shape our vols are truly in. We are so far behind in talent I believe if we signed the number 1 class in the nation this year we would still be in terrible shape next year. So here is where I pose my question. Say we do sign a top say 5 to 10 class come February we will still be super thin next fall how do you suppose the staff keeps the momentum that we have seen this year into the future until we actually start seeing the fruits of the labor 2 or 3 years from now?

Most high schoolers have more sense and patience than 99% of ppl on this board. Recruits know it's gonna take time. Butch will keep momentum. By the end of this season, we will look like a different team. Trust me. There will be progress. Butch will be able to point to that.

The Brick by Brick saying isn't just a phrase to Butch. It's the total team outlook. He's going to have build this team back up to where it needs to be.

These kids know what they've committed to. I think their are some kids who are on board to bring UT back (Kelly, Hurd, Bates etc). And I also think we have guys that are committed to the coaches and that's ok.

But to answer your question, the program has to improve over the years. Ole Miss good example. You have show the kids that the system works. And the kids will buy what you are selling. Easiest way I can put it

I think it should be easy for the staff to sell recruits on the idea of early playing time. Hopefully by the time the depth is where it needs to be, we are winning ball games and recruiting will still remain strong even when kids are red shirting.

That is kind of where my thoughts are. Seems to me and I know its more in depth than just this , but as long as we show improvement and I don't mean come out and win 9 or 10 games next year " even though that would definitely do it" but show that we are actually making strides in the things Coach Jones preaches we will succeed. GO VOLS!

Next year will be worse than this year. Took Spurrier 7 years @ SC and Petrino 5 years @ Arky. Just have to grin and bear it............

Petrino was at Arkansas only 4 years. The Razorbacks actually won the SEC West 2 years before he arrived but never under Petrino.

Get ride of stupid posters.

Gotta love the irony of that post.

The Vols biggest deficiency currently is linebacker and guess what? The strongest aspect of the 2014 class is filling that need. All Vol Nation should be happy, happy, happy.:clapping:

Great question by the OP. We have incredible momentum on the recruiting trail now. How do we keep it? Do we run the risk of the current class falling apart given the results yesterday? I think Butch has prepared the recruits of the difficult road that this year presents. That along with the perceived closeness of this class I think they keep it together for the most part.

At some point though the mojo wears off and the on field results become more of a factor. I have said many times that if CBJ can win the ones he should and be reasonably competitive in the others, things will be great. Unfortunately yesterday, we were not even remotely competitive.

Oregon would have beaten 80% of D1 teams as bad as they beat us. It was rough to watch because Tennessee is supposed to spank people like that, not get spanked! We'll be back. Patience Vol fans!!

Big fan of this post TriCities.

This was in ESPN's SEC weekend recruiting wrapup section

Biggest question
Will Tennessee’s 59-14 loss at Oregon slow down the post-hire momentum and have prospects second guessing? The simple answer to this question is no, as Butch Jones and staff have done a very good job of selling a vision and the future for Tennessee football. Class-building commitments such as Jalen Hurd (Hendersonville, Tenn./Beech) and safety Todd Kelly Jr. (Knoxville, Tenn./Webb) have connections to the Vols and are very solid in-state commitments who have helped build the top 10 class.

The biggest question for the Vols moving forward with a schedule that still has games remaining against Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Alabama is can Tennessee close with the type of strong finish needed to have the type of big class that can help add talent and build depth for the future? The recruitment of two-way lineman Charles Mosley (Brighton, Tenn./Brighton) looks promising with a decision scheduled for Oct. 4, but recruits such as ESPN 300 wide receiver Josh Malone (Gallatin, Tenn./Station Camp) are very key in taking the next step in an ubertalented conference.

The overall game is changing like it or not.. Speed, Speed and more speed on both sides of the ball and a mobile QB. If you don't have a playmaker with the arm and feet in todays game. I was not a believer until the past couple of years and now it is migrated to the NFL. Once the NFL changes to attract players, schools must as well.

Glad you mentioned the Ole Miss turnaround. They had the number 1 recruiting class last year, and the contribution of that class has brought energy to that entire team. I don't know how much playing time each member of this class is getting, but there is no denying the change for the Rebels so far.

Therefore, when National Signing Day gets here, I will be looking forward to seeing just how the class looks. There are still 5(?) spots left to fill, but I feel the incoming freshmen and junior college transfers are going to bring the type of energy Ole Miss is enjoying right now.

So the progress would have to come in the form of winning a game we aren't supposed to would everyone agree? If the wheels completely fell off...that would be worst case scenario IMO.In the case of Dooley I was with him until the Kentucky loss---then you had all the offseason mass exodus of assistants---then last year pretty much the straw that broke the camels back was getting blown out by Vandy.
