Mike Hamilton choose wisely. If history repeats itself the second year of our next football coach could be special. Exibit:
----National championships in their second season (Urben Meyer, Bob Stoops, Jim Tressel, and possibly Nick Saban at Bama)
----SEC championships in their second year (Nick Saban at LSU &? Bama, Mark Richt)

I thought Tressel won a NC in first year. I get the point though and I am down for that. I just want to beat the **** out of UCLA first game next year and kick of this era.

Lost to Lou Holtz and South Carolina in first season (2001). Guess the Buckeye faithful were ready to can him after first year.

I surely hope that history would be on our side but lately UT seems to have no allies in time, history, Lady Luck or anything else that we need to get over the hump.

heres to getting over the hump :toast:

Let's not get ahead of ourselves here... I am all for dreaming out loud, but we need a coach first before we start putting these NC hopes on him.

I wish they would have.

Actually, keeping him around has been great. They can't win a big game to save their lives, but he built up so much capital in that second year that it'll last him another 10.

I remember saying before the season that if Ohio State didn't go unbeaten and score 600 points versus 150 allowed, the whole staff should just be fired. They had something like 12 returning probable first-round picks for their senior seasons in addition to everyone else on the team being a year older and better. Then they get stomped by USC and lose to Penn State after narrowly escaping Wisconsin.

don't start comparing just any coaching hire to those of saban, meyer, stoops or you're going to be disappointed if things don't turn out...

That would be great, but a lot more history says by 2010, most people here will be screaming for a new coach. I prefer your spin.

I think if we bring a good coach in this year and we hang on to some of our recruiting class than we have a good chance to have a good year next year. We have 8 home games next year. If we can regain Knoxville and make it 1 of the toughest places to play again we might turn the ship around in 1 year.

I know this is highly unlikely but its possible. IMO we have the talent we just need the leadership, discipline, and have someone point these young men in the right direction.
