The 2010 recruiting class was ranked 9th by Rivals. It's hard to pinpoint who to give credit/blame for the 2010 recruiting class because Kiffin laid the foundation for much of the class and Dooley wrapped up the class. This class definitely bolstered the talent on the roster and provided a lot of contributors very early in their careers. There were also some academic casualties in this class. Given the circumstances surrounding Kiffin leaving and the hiring of Dooley, I think this is a very good class.

Major Contributors (12)
QB - Bray
RB - Neal
WR - Rogers
WR - Hunter
TE - Rivera (JUCO)
OL - James
OL - Stone
OL - Fulton
DT - Jackson (transferred from USC - drafted)
DE - Smith
DE - Miller
S - Brewer (joined team from professional baseball)

Minor Contributors (6)
OL - Pair (really too early to tell because he redshirted but he's in the 2-deep)
DT - Clark
LB - Propst
LB - Fugate
LB - Sapp
LB - Crump

Misses (6)
QB - Simms (JUCO - graduated)
QB - Nance (transferred)
WR - Milton (transferred)
DE - Jackson (transferred)
K - Palardy
P - Darr

Academic Casualties (5)
DB - Clark (JUCO)
DT - Brown (JUCO)
DB - Loften
DB - Dixon
DB - Meline

Pretty solid overall. When did Pair leave? I thought he was still here and in the 2 deep.

The unfortunate thing about this class is that Clark, Pair, and Darr were the only redshirts.

Solid list. I don't think that I would label James and Rivera as "studs", but I would also think that they have been a bit more to UT's football team than just contributors.

Kerb and Posey were with the second team all spring. I don't believe Pair is second.

Agreed and Clark hasn't contributed yet.

The various categories (studs, contributors, etc.) was the easiest way to group the players. Obviously the contributors category is a broad group.

You're right. Pair is on the roster, but not on the 2-deep according to the pre-training camp depth chart on utports.com.

University of Tennessee Athletics: Football

I must have been thinking of a time prior. I could have sworn he was in there at one point. Oh well, we live and we learn. Lol.

This is a solid class. I wonder which of these "contributors" will develop into studs this year.

Here are my quick opinions on the ones most likely do so:

Mychal Rivera
Jawuan James
Jacques Smith
Rajion Neal (...if he can hold onto the football)

Also, I'm going to go way out on a limb here and predict that either Darr or Palardy (or both) come out of the "misses" category this year.

For the team's sake , I hope those two will reach their potential over the next two years. :ermm:

I'm not sure it's fair to label Loften an academic casualty so soon. He's going to take a few classes this fall and be ready to enroll in December. For real this time.

In reality this is how you build a roster. You need half to be solid and part of the others to help on ST and when called on in game situations. Once CDD gets 3 classes of proven guys in place the program should step up another level. Let's hope that this season starts the progression and that 2013 and 2014 complete it.
