Given the brutal schedule next year I think the offense would benefit from knowing the projected starter after spring ball. This would give the Wr's, Rb and Qb a bunch of time over the summer to work on chemistry. Last year, Crompton wasn't named starter until well into fall camp. This may have had an impact on the slow start we observed.

Do we know a starter early on or have to wait until the start of the season?

I think NS is given the raines and it is his to lose either by bad play or injury. I think we know this following the O&W game.

Sources close to the program indicate that Nash Nance has already been named the starter. Tyler Bray is too skinny, Nick Stephens has red hair, Matt Simms sucks. Nance's hips are too fluid to not start.

If one of the 3 (Stephens, Simms, Bray) really grabs ahold of the position and is a way ahead of the other two then I could see the doodletabby shutting down the competition but if they are all still close after spring ball I can't see why it shouldn't extend into summer work outs and fall camp.

I expect that there will be a "pecking" order going into fall practice. It will be subject to change based on performance ... as it should be!

We've all seen how the fear of being yanked after a bad play or two can cause a QB to tank. Letting the competition go too far into Fall sort of implies that.

From his second spring practice at La Tech:
Louisiana Tech Official Athletic Site

He said a starting position would not be won during spring practice.

Not sure if that's a philosophy, or just what he did in 2008.

I did like how CLK stuck with Crompton after everyone was screaming for his replacement. I think it worked.

However, I am fine with not naming the QB until the beginning of the season. Let the competition go until the reps are needed near the end of summer.

I'm just tired of rotating Qb's, controversy, etc. I guess that's the hand we're dealt but it almost makes me miss the Ainge days. Seems like we haven't had a for sure starter since him.

Well I'd ave to say it is Stephens job to lose. He has a full yr with Chaney now and has the best grasp of the offense. That would be unless Dooley is going to change things up then all would be pretty close to equal. GBO

Long as it's not the ginger, I'm cool with it. I've seen first hand what gingers can do.

I've heard that Simms isn't good enough to start. Granted, my source is a friend who "heard this" from a staff member, so who knows how accurate that is.
Still, I think Stephens will be the man for 2010. I'd like to see Bray take things over after that.

I'm torn. I wonder what the point is of suffering through NS for one year, then having to start the controversy all over again. Would it be better to just go ahead and struggle through with one of the JUCO's or freshmen in an attempt to have a better 2011? I mean, I personally feel if NS doesn't run away with the competion, I'd rather struggle with someone who can comeback better next year. But I'm 5'7 and talking about football to a squirrel on a message board at 2:30 in the afternoon....

Hey guy, why leave Nance off the list? Have you seen the kid throw? He has Dan Marino written all over him.
