Getting the impression that a lot of people think that had Clear not been a dummy and stayed with the team that he would of been a better TE then Stocker. Just curious as to how many people on VN think that?

Stocker was a helluva TE that got under used his SR year IMO. I'm not by any means saying that Clear wouldn't of been better but, he would of certainly had to step it up. His size was incredible though, and it's a shame he was stuck on stupid.

I tried to make a little rough draft of the 2010 vs 2012 Depth charts. I'm sure there are a few mistakes in there somewhere. Sorry it's so long.

The only mistake I saw is that Cordarelle Patterson was a 5* instead of a 4*.

Great comparison otherwise.

It's hard to consider Randolph a 3*. I remember an article by his coach predicting how things would play out for him. He's been right so far. Gatorade player of the year starts a majority of the season as a freshman in the sec. That should make you a 4* unless you play at vandy or ky. It's odd to think how a few subjective calls by some sportswriters can effect the perception of class quality. Many are undervalued and I guess some are overvalued, Bryce comes to mind. You'd think it would be a wash in the end but it feels like with tn, we tend to have a fair share of prospects underrated. Worley for example. Maybe Espn does hate us.

Dont forget B Moore. I think he takes the strong safety spot and Brewer gets moved back to linebacker. Kid was balling out this spring.

This team is more talented, more experience, and has more depth. The 2012 team should be about 4 touchdowns better than the 2010. The 2012 team also plays a significantly easier schedule. So why on earth would people be happy with 8 wins this year, when the 2010 team was two fluke endings away from 8?

My thoughts exactly. I give 8 wins a pass just because we haven't won that many in a while.

After the last few years, I think people will take whatever they can get. I can certainly understand that...

I think had last year not had so many things go wrong, starting with JJ getting dismissed and ending with the UK loss/coaching attrition, people's expectations would be more optimistic.

There are too many unanswered questions about the transition to a 3-4, the mistakes that come with it, the gelling of a new coaching staff, will we have a pass rush, will our OL run block better, is the secondary going to be ok, etc. etc.--that prevent me from seeing more than 8 wins...at this point. I think the majority of those questions will be answered by the end of the Florida game. If we start out 2-0, we'll win 9, maybe 10 games; 1-1, 8 wins; but if by some monumental mistake we start 0-2.....oye.

For me...there are at least 4 swing games (NCSU, UF, Miss State, & Mizzou) that prove pivotal in determining an 8+ win season. We HAVE to beat NCSU and it's CRITICAL that we beat UF in order to win more than 8--we need the early season momentum, and if we get rolling, we have the talent to have the best record in over 5 years.

This team is good enough to back into 8 wins, IMO. Time will tell if we're good enough for more.

Here's hoping we are...

Some folks would be happy with 8 because it's an improvement from 5 or 6. But I'm in the camp that thinks 9 should be the bottom and 10 is very realistic. This team is very talented and I think many of the coaching changes were upgrades, we'll find out soon enough if I'm right on the coaches. If the staff can coach worth a damn we should be in Atlanta in December.
