The 2009 recruiting class was ranked 10th nationally by Rivals. This is the Fulmer/Kiffin recruiting class, but Kiffin seems to get most of the blame for it. This highly-touted class has largely been a complete bust and contributed to our struggles the last couple years. This class makes up the current seniors and redshirt juniors on UT's 2012 roster.

Still on Team (8)
WR - Rogers
WR - Oliver
DT - Hood
DE - Walls
LB - King
LB - Mitchell-Thornton
DB - Gordon
DB - Teague

Not on Team (14)
RB - Brown (transferred)
RB - Oku (transferred)
RB - Williams (transferred)
WR - Richardson (kicked off team)
WR - Green (never made it to UT)
OL - Schofield (academics)
OL - Revis (transferred)
DE - Sykes (JUCO - graduated)
DT - Jeffery (left team)
LB - Askew (left team)
LB - Nelson (left team)
DB - Jackson (kicked off team)
DB - Edwards (kicked off team)
DB - Myles (kicked off team)

With the 2008 and 2009 classes, we basically took 2 years off recruiting. We've paid for it the last couple years.

what's really sad is 2007 although highly rated was not much better.

32 signees with 12 or 13 contributors

Have to go back to '03 for a very good class

Do you think we have turned the corner this year or do we have another year of recruiting to go? I think we will be a 9 win team this year but 13' and on I think we will finally have the 3 deep to compete with consistency. Our D line should have QUALITY depth and not just bodies for backups. We are getting better for sure

We need another year IMO to have depth on the DL to compete with the top SEC teams. We can win 8 or 9 games with what we have.

I agree. We have to get to the point where we are redshirting most of our classes and stockpiling guys. Especially on the DL. I think our OL is at that point right now.

But he should still be able to contend for SEC championships regardless of depth and talent

You are only partially correct. That statement is only true for INHERITED depth and talent. Dooley's recruiting classes going forward must be number one in the SEC on Rivals in order for us to be number one.

Basically, he should be winning with the three stars he inherited, but he absolutely can't win going forward by recruiting three stars. :eek:k:

I understand the frustration with the current state of our football team, but any argument blaming this all on Dooley that wholly ignores the 2008 and 2009 recruiting classes should be summarily dismissed IMO. As a program, we are in much better shape now than we were 2 years ago.
